ResumoObje vou-se avaliar sintomas de ansiedade, depressão e uso de substâncias psicoa vas em pacientes que realizaram a cirurgia bariátrica. Trata-se de um estudo transversal, no qual foram avaliados 20 pacientes entre 1 a 2 anos pós-cirurgia. U lizou-se um ques onário sociodemográfi co, Escalas Beck de Ansiedade (BAI) e de Depressão (BDI) e o Teste de Triagem do Envolvimento com Álcool, Cigarro e Outras Substâncias (ASSIST). Os resultados demonstraram que 80% (n=16) dos pacientes apresentaram sintomas de ansiedade leves, e 85% (n=17) sintomas depressivos leves, e 15% (n=3) dos pacientes indicaram a necessidade de intervenção breve para uso de álcool. Houve correlação signifi ca va entre os escores totais do ASSIST e do BDI. Conclui-se que a cirurgia bariátrica não é um fator signifi ca vo para desenvolvimento desses sintomas, porém destaca-se a importância de acompanhamento psicológico no pós-operatório. This was a cross-sec onal study, in which 20 pa ents between 1 and 2 years after surgery were evaluated. The instruments used: sociodemographic ques onnaire, Beck Anxiety (BAI) and Depression Inventory (BDI) and Alcohol, Smoking and Substance Involvement Screening Test (ASSIST). The results showed that 80% (n = 16) of the pa ents presented mild anxiety symptoms and 85% (n = 17) mild depressive symptoms and 15% (n = 3) of the pa ents indicated the need for brief interven on for alcohol use. There was a signifi cant correla on between the total ASSIST and BDI scores. It is concluded that bariatric surgery is not a signifi cant factor for the development of these symptoms, but the importance of psychological monitoring in the postopera ve period stands out. Los resultados mostraron que 80% (n = 16) de los pacientes experimentaron síntomas de ansiedad leve, 85% (n = 17) tuvieron síntomas depresivos leves y 15% (n = 3) indicaron la necesidad de intervención breve para el uso de alcohol. Hubo correlación signifi ca va entre el puntaje total del ASSIST y de la EDB. La conclusión del estudio es que la cirugía bariátrica no es un factor importante en el desarrollo de esos síntomas, pero es relevante el apoyo psicológico postoperatorio. Trends Psychiatry Psychother. 2017;39(2):124-134. http://dx.doi.org/10.1590/2237-6089-2016 Abstract Introduction: Numerous studies have focused on psychological assessment of bariatric surgery candidates, aiming to identify which psychological variables, including personality characteristics, are related to successful surgical prognosis. Objective: To analyze, by means of a systematic literature review, longitudinal studies that investigated personality traits and disorders as possible predictors of outcomes in bariatric surgery. Method: PsycInfo, PubMed, and Scopus databases were searched for studies published between 2005 and 2015, using the keywords "bariatric" AND "personality." Quantitative longitudinal studies in English, Portuguese, or Spanish were selected for review if they assessed personality as an outcome predictor of BS in people aged 18 years or older. Results: Sixteen articles were analyzed. The results of this review suggest that externalizing dysfunctions might be associated with less weight reduction, while internalizing dysfunctions appear to be associated with somatic concerns and psychological distress. The persistence dimension (of temperament in Cloninger's model) was positively associated with greater weight loss, while neuroticism (Five Factor Model) and the occurrence of personality disorders were not predictive of weight loss. Furthermore, the results indicate a tendency towards a reduction in personality disorders and neuroticism scores, and an increase in extroversion scores, after BS. Conclusions: Assessment of personality characteristics, whether to identify their predictive power or to detect changes during the BS process, is important since it can provide grounds for estimating surgical prognosis and for development of interventions targeting this population.

ABSTRACT-Background -Bariatric surgeries have been considered an alternative for treatment of morbid obesity. Some adverse events that people experience after the treatment frequently are the consequence of the lack of consistent knowledge associated with psychosocial factors that are related to the pre-surgery status of the patients. Aim -To evaluate psychosocial variables of 414 candidates for bariatric surgery from Clinical Hospital of Medical School at University of São Paulo, Ribeirão Preto, SP, Brazil. Methods -Semi-structured interview, Beck Depression Inventory (BDI), Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI) and Binge Eating Scale (BES) were used. Results -BMI was higher among patients who had no employment (p = 0.019). Female, patients who had a partner and patients with a BMI < 50 kg/m², all of them desired have a lower weight (p < 0.001). BAI scores were higher among patients who had no employment (p < 0.05) and higher among those with a BMI > 50 kg/m² (p < 0.05). BDI scores were higher among women (p < 0.05) and lower among those who had an employment (p < 0.01). No difference in BES was found. Conclusions -The data suggest that women showed higher indicators of anxiety and depression, suggesting that they had a more fragile psychological functioning with difficulties in coping with distress. Self-perception as well as skills and abilities, may reflect internal aspects of individual's personality. Patients who had an employment before surgery seemed have more emotional resources. So, they may feel less distress because the employment may protect them. Women and those who did not have an employment were more likely to experience depression symptoms. Furthermore, patients who did not have an employment and those with BMI> 50 kg / m² were more likely to experience anxiety symptoms. ABCDDV/798RESUMO -Racional -Operações bariátricas têm sido consideradas alternativa para o tratamento de obesidade mórbida. Alguns eventos adversos que as pessoas experimentam após o tratamento frequentemente são consequência da falta de conhecimento consistente associada a fatores psicossociais que estão relacionadas ao status pré-operatório dos pacientes.
