Show more

“…The brine shrimp assay has been established as a safe, practical, and economic method for the determination of the bioactivity of synthetic compounds (Almeida et al, 2002) as well as plant products (Meyer et al, 1982;McLaughlin et al, 1991;Lhullier et al, 2006;Stefanello et al, 2006). The signifi cant correlation between the brine shrimp assay and in vitro growth inhibition of human solid tumor cell lines demonstrated by the National Cancer Institute (NCI, USA) is signifi cant because it shows the value of this bioassay as a pre-screening tool for antitumor drug research (Anderson et al, 1991).…”

“…The research was a study that involved patent application delaying its disclosure, so it was used Artemia test, which is considered a preliminary study of low cost and easy handling on bioassay of extracts with strong biological activity [19], since the accomplishment of the lethality test allows the evaluation of the toxicity involving only one parameter: life or death [20].…”

“…The brine shrimp lethality bioassay (BSLB) has been used as an efficient, rapid and inexpensive front-line test for the detection of bioactive compounds (Meyer et al, 1982;Ghisalberti, 1997;Lhullier et al, 2006;Stefanello et al, 2006;Silva et al, 2007;Nunes et al, 2008;Shoeb et al, 2008;Subhan et al, 2008). This bioassay requires small amount of sample (Solis et al, 1993), and it generally correlates well with cytotoxic (McLaughlin et al, 1998) and trypanosomicidal (Zani et al, 1995) activities.…”
