The purpose of this paper is to assess the impact of economic, social, and environmental on food consumption of urban poor households in Indonesia in 2006-2019. The data of which are obtained from the Welfare Statistics sourced from the results of the National Socio-Economic Survey. In Indonesia, studies on poverty using a proxy model for the food consumption of poor households are still relatively limited. This study provides empirical evidence that the economic, social, and environmental dimensions have a significant and negative effect on the level of food consumption of urban poor households in Indonesia. Policy implications that can be prioritized improving the quality of human capital of the urban poor will trigger optimal competence of the poor and increase employment opportunities in the formal sector which will contribute to increased income and welfare—improvement of environmental quality by providing access for the urban poor to WASH in their respective houses. Furthermore, controlling the population is one component that is no less important in reducing urban poverty.

Abstract: "It is not possible to separate people by race in Brazil" (Fry et al., 2007). This common and long-standing argument is part of the Brazilian racial classification system at least since the early 20th century. The inability to identify target populations has also been a reason to be skeptical about the success of affirmative action programs implemented to mitigate persistent racial inequalities in Brazil. This article investigates the association between inconsistencies in racial classification and the level and composition of inequalities in education and consumption. Using unique data from the 2002 Brazilian Social Survey (PESB), we show that individuals whose race/color was inconsistently reported account for at least half of total inequality and more than a third of inter-racial inequality. After excluding inconsistently classified individuals from our sample, however, the share of inter-racial inequalities does not substantially change, demonstrating that racial uncertainty has little influence on racial inequality in Brazil.

Resumo Nos últimos anos, tem-se observado crescente interesse no estudo e na utilização de técnicas quantitativas nas ciências sociais. Do mesmo modo, verifica-se a ampliação do debate acerca de seus usos e a criação de novas ferramentas e abordagens para a aplicação da metodologia quantitativa em estudos sociais e políticos. Com o objetivo de refletir sobre essas questões a partir da experiência teórica e empírica, realizamos entrevistas com dois professores/pesquisadores de diferentes gerações, que são referências importantes na área, o Prof. Dr. Nelson do Valle Silva, do Instituto de Estudos Sociais e Políticos da Universidade do Estado do Rio de Janeiro (IESP-UERJ) e o Prof. Dr. Jerônimo Muniz, da Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais (UFMG).
