The metabolizable energy (ME) determination for foods used in quail diets, through metabolism assays, takes time, infrastructure and financial resources, which makes the development of prediction equations based on proximal composition of foods to estimate the ME values of particular interest. The objective of this study was to adjust the prediction equations of metabolizable energy (ME) of corn for quail. The chemical compositions of 12 maize varieties were determined and a metabolism assay was carried out in order to determine the apparent metabolizable energy (AME) and nitrogen-corrected apparent metabolizable energy (AMEn) of these corn varieties. The values of chemical composition, AME and AMEn, converted to dry matter, were used to adjust the prediction equations. The initial adjustment of simple and multiple linear regression of the AME and AMEn was performed using the values of crude protein (CP), ether extract (EE), neutral (NDF) and acid (ADF) detergent fiber, mineral matter (MM), calcium (Ca) and phosphorus (P) as regressors (full model). To adjust the prediction equations the statistical procedure of simple and multiple linear regression was used, with the technique of indirect elimination (Backward). There was adjustment of 10 prediction equations, in which 5 were for AME and another 5 for AMEn and the R² values ranged from 0.20 to 0.75 and from 0.21 to 0.78, respectively. For all adjusted equations, negative correlations for MM were observed, which may be related to its dilutive effect of the gross energy contained in corn. In conclusion, the equations that showed better adjustment were AME= 5605. 46 -385 alimentos. Objetivou-se com este trabalho ajustar equações de predição dos valores de EM do milho para codornas de corte. Foi determinada a composição química de 12 diferentes cultivares de milho e realizado um ensaio de metabolismo, com estas cultivares, para determinação da EM aparente (EMA) e EMA corrigida para balanço de nitrogênio (EMAn).De posse da composição química, e dos valores de EMA e EMAn, convertidos para a matéria seca, procedeu-se com o ajuste das equações de predição. O ajuste inicial dos modelos de regressão linear simples e múltipla, dos dados de EMA e EMAn, foi realizado utilizando-se os valores de proteína bruta (PB), extrato etéreo (EE), fibras em detergentes neutro (FDN) e ácido (FDA), matéria mineral (MM), cálcio (Ca) e fósforo (P) como regressoras (modelo completo). Para o ajustamento das equações de predição, dos valores de EMA e EMAn, foi utilizado o procedimento de regressão linear simples e múltipla, por meio da técnica de eliminação indireta (Backward). Houve ajustamento de 10 equações de predição da EM do milho, sendo 5 para EMA e 5 para EMAn, cujos valores de R² variaram de 0,20 a 0,75 e de 0,21 a 0,78, respectivamente. Corn is one of the primary ingredients in swine diets, but there is a variation in its chemical composition and metabolizable energy (ME) content. Therefore, faster methods are required that can determine more accurate ME values to improve piglet diets. This study determined and predicted the ME of corn from first and second harvests for piglets. Two experiments were conducted to determine the ME values for 18 corn batches, evaluating corn from first and second harvests. The corn batches were analysed to determine the concentration of dry matter (DM), starch (ST), neutral detergent fiber (NDF), acid detergent fiber (ADF), crude protein (CP), ether extract (EE), ash, calcium (Ca), phosphorus (P) and gross energy (GE). To determine the ME values, 40 piglets were used in each experiment, grouped into a randomized block design with four replicates. The ME of the corn from the first and second crops ranged from 3281 to 3509 and from 3143 to 3652 kcal/kg on an as-fed basis, respectively, and the fitted equations to predict the ME presented a low R 2 . The best fit equation for predicting the ME of corn for piglets was determined to be ME= -6306.15 + 400.652ADF + 117.286ST + 24924.7Ca + 2489.66P -148.41CP (R Index terms: Metabolizability coefficients; prediction equations; swine. RESUMOO milho é um dos principais alimentos utilizados em rações para suínos, porém existem variações em sua composição química e conteúdo de energia metabolizável (EM). Portanto, são necessários métodos rápidos para se determinar os valores de EM de forma precisa, melhorando as dietas dos leitões. O trabalho determinou e ajustou equações de predição de EM do milho de 1 a e 2 a safra para leitões. Foram realizados dois experimentos para determinar os valores de EM de 18 cultivares de milho, avaliando-se os milhos de 1ª e 2ª safras. Foram realizadas as análises de matéria seca (MS), amido (AMI), fibra em detergente neutro (FDN), fibra em detergente ácido (FDA), proteína bruta (PB), extrato etéreo (EE), matéria mineral (MM), cálcio (Ca), fósforo (P) e energia bruta (EB) dos milhos. Para a determinação dos valores energéticos foram utilizados 40 animais em cada experimento, distribuídos em um delineamento experimental de blocos ao acaso com quatro repetições. Os valores de EM dos milhos de 1ª e 2ª safra variaram de 3281 a 3509 e de 3143 a 3652 kcal/kg MN, respectivamente, as equações ajustadas para predizer a EM apresentaram baixo R 2 . Nutritional and energy values of sunflower cake for broilers

The study aimed to determine the nutritional and energy values of sunflower cake for broilers through two experiments. The first study evaluated the energy values by the method of total excreta collection, using 100 broiler chicks 21-31 days old, divided into five treatments of 0%, 10%, 20%, 30% and 40% inclusion sunflower cake will reference a diet. The second experiment evaluated the influence of the period and the quantity supplied of sunflower cake on digestibility of amino acids by a forcedfeeding technique. Eighteen cockerels were used, divided into three treatments, which consisted of supplying 15 g of sunflower cake, 30 g of sunflower cake (15 g at intervals of 12 hours) and 30 g of sunflower cake (15 g at intervals of 24 hours), and an additional six roosters were fasted for correction of metabolic and endogenous losses. The samples were sent for amino acid analysis by HPLC in the Evonik Laboratory (Germany), and chemical and energy analysis to Unioeste Laboratory. The values of apparent metabolizable energy (AME), metabolization coefficient (AMC), apparent metabolizable energy corrected for nitrogen balance (AMEn), metabolization coefficient corrected for nitrogen balance (AMCn) for sunflower cake were 2211.68 kcal.kg -1 , 2150.54 kcal.kg -1 , 45.47% and 44.73%, respectively. The amount of food provided in the feeding method changed the assessment of true digestibility of amino acids (TDCA), and when only 15 g was used, the values of true digestibility coefficients were underestimated. The lysine, histidine and threonine amino acids were at lower TDCA, and arginine and methionine showed the highest TDCA for sunflower cake.
