Atividades de coleta e origem floral do pólen armazenado em colônias de Plebeia saiqui (Holmberg) (Hymenoptera, Apidae, Meliponinae) no sul do Brasil

Abstract: ABSTRACT. Collection activities and floral origin of the stored pollen in colonies of Plebeia saiqui (Holmberg) (Hymenoptera, Apidae, Meliponinae) in south Brazil. Four colonies of Plebeia saiqui (Holmberg, 1903), of Sao Francisco de Paula, were studied during the period from October/1998 to October/1999. The counting of the bees was proceeded monthly, differentiated workers that came back with and without pollen in the corbicula. Grains of pollen of pots previously marked were collected monthly and identified… Show more

“…A greater number of incomes of this resource was observed in the reproductive phase and the percentage of bees doing this activity increased in relation to the other resources, although nectar incomes made the greatest percentage of the incomes in both phases. This difference in the number of bees foraging for pollen was also observed in P. saiqui [13].…”

“…However, among the species that present reproductive diapause, the foraging pattern and the flight activity in relation to the phase of diapause and the phase of oviposition by the queen were studied comparatively only in Plebeia saiqui [13,14].…”

“…The reduced number of workers observed in June was apparent when the colonies were analyzed separately ( Figure 4). Temperature is an important determining factor for the normal activity of bees, being perhaps the most important factor for regulating the onset of flight [45][46][47][48]. Low temperatures reduce metabolic rates, thereby impeding flight activity and other movements in bees [49].…”

No Rio Grande do Sul apenas Plebeia saiqui (Holmberg, 1903) foi estudada quanto às atividades externas em distintas épocas do ano (PICK & BLOCHTEIN 2002a, b).…”
