Behavior of chicks subjected to thermal challenge

Abstract: ABSTRACT:In the first week of a chick life, broilers are very sensitive to different conditions outside their thermoneutral zone. Thus, the goal of this study was to evaluate the behaviors and productive responses of broilers subjected to conditions of thermal comfort or challenge at different intensities (27, 30, 33 and 36°C) and durations (1, 2, 3 and 4 days starting on the second day of life). In the experiment, ten minutes of images from each hour of each treatment were analyzed to evaluate the key behavi… Show more

“…In the present study, the relative levels of each PS were determined, and then, all data were z-score transformed to produce a heat map using a supervised HCA method, as described by Ferraz et al (2014). The clustering method and similarity measure were set as the unweighted average and Euclidean distance, respectively.…”

“…Hierarchical clustering analysis was developed to make a comparison of all studied scenarios, using average values (Figure 6). This analysis is used to separate objects into groups based on the characteristics of the objects (Ferraz et al, 2014). According to Linden (2009), the basic idea is to put in the same group objects that are similar according to some predetermined criterion.…”

“…The basic idea is to put in the same group objects that are similar according to some predetermined criterion (LINDEN, 2009). The HCA was proceeded according to Lau et al (2009) and Ferraz et al (2014). The cluster heat map described the results of this analysis.…”
