As … Show more

“…These observed values for fruit weight corroborate the data observed in Linhares (ES), with values from 0.8 to 2.0 kg fruit -1 (Gomes Filho et al, 2008). However, they are below those observed in Cruz das Almas (BA), with mean values of 2.3 kg fruit -1 (Carvalho et al, 2004) and in Limoeiro do Norte (CE), with values from 1.8 to 2.4 kg fruit -1 (Santos et al, 2008). This superiority might have occurred due to the low number of fruits per plant, causing a greater accumulation of photoassimilates per fruit.…”

“…Gomes Filho et al, 2008). However, the values were above the highest productions observed in Limoeiro do Norte -CE (Santos et al, 2008), which represented only 25.2% of the observed in Baraúna. Also, in Cruz das Almas -BA (Souza et al, 2007), a production of only 14.3% of the observed in Baraúna was registered.…”

“…Bahia, Espírito Santo, Minas Gerais, Ceará, and Rio Grande do Norte are the major producer states (Anuário Brasileiro de Fruticultura, 2015). Due to environmental conditions and rainfall irregularity in this region, the use of irrigation in papaya cultivation can promote increased productivity, making it an economically viable crop (Santos et al, 2008).…”

“…For Santos et al (2008), studying the effect of different irrigation depths on a papaya crop, there was a linear increase in crop productivity for the increasing volume of water applied. However, it should be investigated whether this increase in productivity justifies the large amount of water used, that is, water-use efficiency, and the relationship between production and the volume of water used, should be considered.…”
