Th e immature leaves of the buriti palm (Mauritia fl exuosa) are widely harvested in the municipality of Barreirinhas, Maranhão, for the production of handicrafts, which are sold to locals and tourists. Th e increasing demand for these artisanal goods is stimulating the emergence of an informal market for immature buriti leaves, leading to an intensifi cation of their extraction and resulting in negative eff ects on local buriti palm populations and the ecosystem. Th us, the objective of the present study was to assess the environmental value of the buriti palm tree based on the maximum willingness to pay (WTP) for its conservation, using the contingent valuation method. Among the respondents, 99.74% reported that the palm species should be protected and the majority of them (65.75%) agreed to pay for its conservation (annual WTP R$ 179.49 ± 222.05). Multivariate analysis revealed that the WTP was not infl uenced by the socio-economic profi le of the respondents. Th e main reasons for non-WTP are related to dissatisfaction with the government and the belief that fi nancial contributions would not solve problems of environmental damage. Overall, the evaluated population believes that environmental conservation is not an obligation of the government or that of the population, but is a collective responsibility.

“…The Indirect Method of Contingent Valuation (MAC) makes use of statistics public consultations, such as interviews, to directly capture the individual values of use and non-use, assigned to a natural resource (Silveira et al, 2013).The questioning may be voluntary like the willingness to pay (WTP), or induced like multiple choice quizzes (DA COSTA et al, 2015).It is required, however, special care in planning and execution of research so that it does not direct the results and compromise the analysis of the estimates (PALMER, MAIA, 2011).However, it is recommended to have caution in the use of environmental valuation methods, and the combined use of other nonmonetary criteria of environmental impact assessment, as Templates Decision Support, or Multi-criteria (MCDA -Multiple Criteria Decision Aid), especially when the impact or environmental resource can become irreversible (Pearce, 1993; Andrade and Romeiro, 2011; Ribeiro, 2015; Leal Jr. and D'Agosto, 2012).…”

This study aims to present the results of a systematic literature research developed to identify methodologies, models and scientific planning methods, and valuation of environmental costs in transport, which should serve as theoretical and technical basis for the development of a specific methodological contribution, for sustainable planning, reduction of energy consumption, low pollutant emissions, the urban environment of cities, and for the transport of people. The research carefully selected articles that have demonstrated the potential application of the concepts of sustainable logistics, green logistics and low-carbon logistics in public transport of people. In the second stage, applications directed to transport planning and valuation of environmental costs in transport were identified in these articles, such as pollutant emissions and energy consumption to standardize the concepts, understand them and use them to build a model. It was possible to identify 20 different methods with common objectives of transport sustainability and to build a methodological proposal of sustainable urban transport planning (MPTS-URB), whose contribution is a joint approach of sustainability, economic study, demand and transportation capacity factors, in which all work in harmony. Following this research, it is intended to apply the methodology built-MPTS-URB in the sample environment and to analyze its results.

This paper estimates the value of environmental damage generated by pollution in the artificial lake Salto Caveiras, evaluating the willingness to pay (WTP) of the local population for its recuperation and conservation. Environmental Concern Scale (ECS) was introduced, in addition to the socioeconomic variables, collected by the Contingent Valuation Method (CVM) and modeled by Logit regression and evaluated by multivariate statistics instruments, utilizing Principal Components Analysis (PCA). We demonstrate that 45.6% of the interviewed are willing to pay monthly. The others answered negatively: 18.9% because of payment incapacity, 12.8% would donate a smaller value than the one proposed and 22.8% gave a protest response.. The introduction of ECS as a new variable to CVM is significant as a unique and innovative variable provided by multivariate analysis indicated to be promising, what recommends such procedures to other studies.Keywords: environmental concern; multivariate analysis; valuation economic; water resource; water pollution. RESUMOO objetivo deste trabalho foi estimar o valor dos danos ambientais gerados pela poluição ao lago artificial Salto Caveiras, a partir da mensuração da disposição a pagar (DAP) da população local pela recuperação e conservação do mesmo. Foi introduzida na análise uma Escala de Consciência Ambiental (ECA), além do perfil socioeconômico, obtidos com a aplicação do Método de Valoração Contingente (MVC) e modelados pela regressão Logit e avaliados por instrumentos da estatística multivariada, utilizando-se da Análise de Componentes Principais (ACP). Os resultados revelam que 45,6% dos entrevistados estão dispostos a contribuir. Os outros responderam negativamente: 18,9% devido à incapacidade de pagamento, 12,8% propuseram um valor menor do que o sugerido e 22,8% deram uma resposta com caráter de voto de protesto. A introdução da ECA como uma nova variável ao MVC se mostrou significativa, bem como a visão holística, inédita e inovadora proporcionada pela análise multivariada se mostrou promissora, recomendando-se tais procedimentos para outros estudos.Palavras-chave: percepção ambiental; análise multivariada; valoração econômica; recurso hídrico; poluição da água.
