Primary metabolite mobilization during germination in rosewood (Aniba rosaeodora Ducke) seeds

Abstract: -This study aimed to characterize protein, oil, starch and soluble sugar mobilization as well as the activity of α-amylase during rosewood seed germination. Germination test was carried out at 25°C and the following parameters were analyzed: percentage of germination, initial, average, and final germination time. Seed reserve quantification was monitored in quiescent seeds and during different stages of radicle growth. Starch mobilization was studied in function of α-amylase activity. Germination reached 87.5%… Show more

“…In a study on reserve mobilization in Aniba rosaeodora seeds, there was a 30% reduction in soluble sugars when the radicle length was 2-5 cm, with this mobilization being associated with the formation of the first leaf (Lima et al, 2008). Soluble sugar levels also decreased during imbibition of Senna macranthera , Apuleia leiocarpa (Pontes et al, 2002) and Caesalpinia peltophoroides (Corte et al, 2006) seeds, indicating the mobilization of carbohydrates for the germination process.…”

“…Durante a germinação de sementes de Aniba rosaeodora, o decréscimo no teor de amido foi relacionado ao aumento na atividade da α-amilase, indicando ser esta enzima a responsável pela quebra inicial do amido na espécie (Lima et al, 2008).…”

“…progressive increases in dry matter mass due to the synthesis and deposition of reserves, such as carbohydrates, lipids and proteins (Suda & Giorgini, 2000;Lima et al, 2008;Bewley et al, 2013). These processes occur in specific organelles that may be present in the embryo and/or reserve tissues, such as the endosperm.…”
