Eudesmane and rearranged eudesmane sesquiterpenes from Nectandra cissiflora

Abstract: Recebido em 12/2/10; aceito em 6/5/10; publicado na web em 24/8/10Four eudesmane-type sesquiterpenes, costic acid (1), 12-carboxyeudesman-3,11(13)-diene (2), viscic acid (3), 3-oxo-g-costic acid (4) and two rearranged eudesmane derivatives, 3a-hydroxyisoiphion-11(13)-en-12-oic acid (5) and 5b-hydroxy-4-oxo-11(13)-dehydroiphionan-12-oic acid (6), in addition to (-)-epicatechin, have been isolated from the trunk bark of Nectandra cissiflora. This is the first reported occurrence in the Lauraceae of 3-6. The stru… Show more

“…Moreover, D. viscosa is not the only species containing costic acid as a metabolite. It has been reported in the literature as a component in other plants such as Nectandra cissiflora , Nees [ 40 ], Ferula communis L [ 41 ], Laggera pterodonta (DC.) Benth [ 42 ], Nectandra membranacea (Sw.) Griseb [ 43 ], and Stevia polyphylla DC [ 44 ].…”

“…The 1D NMR spectra of 1 including 1 H and 13 C NMR (see ESI, Table S1 †) unravelled a close resemblance to the known natural metabolite 3-oxo-dinor-eudesma-4-en-11-oic acid with an exocyclic carboxylic acid group (d C 176.8, C-11). 36,37 By careful investigation of extensive 2D NMR spectra such as 1 29 To unambiguously determine the positions of the hydroxyl and carboxylic acid moieties in both 1 and 2, gHMBC experiments were performed (see ESI, Fig. S3, S9 and S17 †).…”

“…amazonum [ 41 ], N . cissiflora [ 42 ], vitexin, isovitexin, and epicatechin in Nectandra cuspidata [ 43 ] and quercetin-3- O -rhamnoside in Nectandra grandiflora [ 44 ]. Thus, the other compounds of the Nectandra genus identified herein (peak 1, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 9, 10, 11, 13, 14, 15, 16, 18, 21, 22 and 23 ) are described for the first time, demonstrating the capacity of N .…”
