Ésteres triterpênicos de Himatanthus sucuuba (Spruce) Woodson

Abstract: Recebido em 17/7/97; aceito em 14/5/98 TRITERPENIC ESTERS FROM HIMATANTHUS SUCUUBA (SPRUCE) WOODSON. Bioactivityguided fractionation from hexane extract of Himatanthus sucuuba barks utilizing Cladosporium sphaerospermum led to the isolation of iridoids plumericin and isoplumericin, which showed higher inhibition against C. sphaerospermum than the antibiotic nistatin. Besides bioactive iridoids were isolated the inactive triterpenes lupeol cinnamate, α α α α α-amyrin cinnamate and lupeol acetate.

“…The triterpenes 1-6 were identified by comparison of their NMR data with the literature (Fulgentius et al, 1990;Klass & Tinto, 1992;Silva et al, 2000;Souza et al, 2001;Saraiva et al, 2006). Biological activities were previously reported for the isolated triterpenes: anti-AIDS for betulinic acid, herbicid for lupenone and fibrinolytic for betulin (Connolly & Hill, 2010).…”

“…In Brazil, the latex and bark have been used as an antitumor agent and for their antiulcer and anti-inflammatory activities (Schultes, 1979;van den Berg, 1982;Di Stasi et al, 1989;Silva et al, 1998). However there is limited pharmacology reported to justify, in terms of existing legal requirements, the wide use of the plant by the population.…”
