Triterpenes and flavonoids from the roots of Mauritia flexuosa

Abstract: Mauritia flexuosa L. f., Arecaceae, is an endemic species of South America. This species was studied with the intent to isolate the constituents of its roots. After the fractionation of the n-hexane and methanolic extracts from the roots of M. flexuosa, six triterpenes were obtained: friedelin, taraxerone, lupenyl acetate, lupenone, betulin and betulinic acid, along with three flavonoids: rutin, quercitrin and quercetin. All the compounds were identified by analysis of NMR and MS data and comparison with the l… Show more

“…Os resultados mostraram um padrão de fragmentação característico para as duas substâncias, com perda das unidades de açúcar (m/z 609/301 e m/z 463/301) e a fragmentação das respectivas agliconas gerando o íon 1,2 A -(m/z 301/179), ambas em concordância com a literatura [37][38][39][40][41][42][43] (Material suplementar).…”

“…This dioecious tropical palm has high ecological, cultural and economic value, however destructive harvesting practices to obtain the fruits undermine the palm's potential in rural and regional economies (Koolen, Soares, et al, 2013). Swamps which are dominated by M. flexuosa are popularly known as buritizais in Brazil, occurring throughout the Amazon region and making its resources accessible to the harvesters in large quantities (Koolen, Soares, da Silva, de Souza, Rodrigues-Filho, et al, 2012). The antioxidant properties of Amazonian fruits have been known for a long time and have been the subject of many scientific studies (Morales-Soto et al, 2014).…”
