The aim of this study is to compare physiological development of Heliconia bihai cv. Lobster Claw Two plants derived from in vitro culture of zygotic embryos and conventional propagation. Heliconias obtained from rhizomes and from in vitro multiplication were evaluated every 30 days during ten months under greenhouse conditions. The experimental design was completely randomized, with ten repetitions, and the 2x10 factorial arrangement consisted of two plant multiplication methods and ten evaluations performed at different times. The analyzed biometric parameters were plant height, number of leaves, number of tillers, leaf area, and color intensity in the bracts. Plants derived from in vitro culture showed significant differences in the development of the evaluated physiological parameters in comparison to plants derived from rhizomes, and they also showed early flowering. Although the in vitro cultured plants were derived from zygotic embryos, no morphological changes were found in the vegetative and reproductive parts (inflorescence) of the plants or in the colorimetry. It shows that the in vitro cultures of zygotic embryos may be used as a technique to produce seedlings on a large-scale, thus allowing the floriculture sector to grow in the region and all over the country.

Resumo -O objetivo foi de avaliar a variabilidade espacial de atributos químicos do solo e da produção de bananeira 'Prata-Anã', por meio da estatística clássica e da geoestatística e a correlação entre eles. Foram coletadas quatro amostras ao redor de cada planta e feita uma amostra composta, na profundidade de 0-0,2 m, em malha regular, totalizando 100 pontos amostrais espaçados de 6 x 4 m. A produção da bananeira apresentou correlação negativa de 0,20 com H+Al. Todos os atributos químicos do solo e a produção da bananeira apresentaram dependência espacial. SPATIAL VARIABILITY OF CHEMICAL ATTRIBUTES IN THE SOIL AND YIELD OF BANANA 'PRATA ANÃ'ABSTRACT -The aim was to study the spatial variability of the soil chemical properties and the production of banana 'Prata-Anã', by classical statistics and geostatistics, and the correlation between them. Samples were collected at four points around the plants making a composite sample, at a depth of 0-0.2 m in a regular grid, total of 100 sampling points, spaced 6 x 4 m. The production of banana showed a negative correlation of 0.20 with H+Al. All soil chemical properties and the production of banana showed spatial dependence.

Weed Interference on ‘Prata-Anã’ Banana Production

In the state of Minas Gerais, the northern region is one of the main banana production cores. Weed interference can reduce crop growth and, consequently, lead to reduced yield and fruit quality. Therefore, the objective of this study was to evaluate the interference of weeds in the production of the first and second cycles of ‘Prata-Anã’ bananas. The experimental design was randomized blocks, with ten treatments and three replicates, evaluated in two crop cycles. The treatments were ten periods of weed control, from planting: without control; control throughout the whole experimental period; control only in the first month after planting; control until the second; third; fourth; fifth; sixth; eighth and tenth months after planting. The agronomic and productive characteristics of the ‘Prata-Anã’ bananas were evaluated aton harvest. The maintenance of ‘Prata-Anã’ bananas without weed coexistence for up to 30 days after planting was enough to obtain fruits with satisfactory quality and productivity, both in the first and in the second production cycle, without altering the vegetative and reproductive cycles.
