Show more

“…The interference from the environment is mainly due to soil conditions and climate. As a result, a pronounced effect was expected, as reported in studies involving the melon crop in the semiarid Brazilian region (Nunes, Andrade Neto, Costa Filho, & Melo, 2011a;Nunes et al, 2011b;Silva, Nunes, Costa, Aragão, & Maia, 2011).…”

“…This low performance occurred because the cultivars evaluated in the present study were not selected for high temperature conditions. The Mossoró region has high temperatures throughout the year, with average of 31.24 °C and maximum above 40 °C (NUNES et al, 2011a). The results showed the difficulties in identifying cultivars adapted to high temperatures, denoting that the development of lettuce cultivars to semiarid regions is a great challenge, since this plant species is originally suitable for mild climate with temperatures between 15 and 20 ºC.…”

“…This phenomenon is explained by the differential behavior of the genotypes in different environments. The interaction G x E has a role in the phenotypic manifestation and may hinder the work of the breeder in recommending cultivars or in the selective process (NUNES et al, 2011). There are many published studies on the G x E interaction of cowpea, regarding various regions of the country and the various growth habits of the plant, whether erect, semi-erect, semi-prostrate or prostrate, for green grains and dry grains (SANTOS et al, 2008;PASSOS et al, 2011;BARROS et al, 2013;TEODORO et al, 2015a;SANTOS et al, 2016).…”
