This study was conducted aiming to evaluate the effect of rootstocks in plant vigor, yield, and fruit quality of 'Maciel' peach trees growing in a 7-8-year-old orchard in the municipality of Pelotas, Rio Grande do Sul state, Brazil. The experiment was performed with plants of the 'Maciel' cultivar grafted on the following eight Prunus persica rootstocks: 'Capdeboscq', 'Aldrighi', 'Tsukuba 1', 'Okinawa clone 1', 'Okinawa 'clone 12', 'Industry', 'Nemaguard', and 'Rubirà'. Trunk diameter, height and yield of plants, fruit mass, soluble solids content, and fruit classification by category were evaluated. The experimental design used randomized blocks with three replicates, with five plants per parcel. In two evaluation cycles (2011/2012 and 2012/2013), 'Aldrighi' presented the largest trunk diameter (75.5 and 80.4 mm, respectively) compared with 'Okinawa clone 1' (65.80 and 67.7 mm, respectively) and 'Rubirà´ (63.4 mm and 65.8, respectively). Fruit mass was greater for 'Aldrighi' (118.6 g), 'Industry' (106.5 g) and 'Capdeboscq' (103.5 g) in the 2011/2012 cycle. The 'Maciel'/'Aldrighi' combination showed the highest yield, with the highest percentage of fruits in class I; however, the fruits showed the lowest soluble solids content among the tested scion/rootstock combinations (12.6 °Brix), differing only from 'Maciel'/'Okinawa clone 1' (15.2 °Brix). Under the conditions in which the experiment was conducted, we conclude that characteristics such as vigor, yield, and fruit quality of 'Maciel' peach trees are differentially influenced by the rootstocks used. The 'Okinawa Clone 1' rootstock induces less vigor and greater total soluble solids in fruits of 'Maciel' peach trees compared with the 'Aldrighi' rootstock, but it does not significantly influence the productive efficiency and yield of the plants. RESUMO: O presente estudo foi conduzido com o objetivo de avaliar o efeito de porta-enxertos sobre o vigor das plantas, produtividade e qualidade de frutos de pessegueiros 'Maciel' durante o sétimo e oitavo anos de um pomar instalado em Pelotas, Estado do Rio Grande do Sul. Resumo -O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar o efeito de diferentes porta-enxertos no desenvolvimento vegetativo, fenológico e produtivo do pessegueiro [Prunus persica (L.) Batsch] cv. Chimarrita. Os portaenxertos utilizados foram 'Capdeboscq', 'Tsukuba 1', 'Okinawa', 'Aldrighi' e 'GF 305'. As variáveis analisadas foram: diâmetro do tronco, volume da copa, material retirado da poda, época de brotação, época de fl oração, quantidade de clorofi la, área foliar específi ca, comprimento dos ramos principais, produtividade, massa dos frutos, coloração do fruto, fi rmeza de polpa, teor de sólidos solúveis totais (SST), acidez titulável (TA), relação SST/AT, fenóis totais e época de maturação. O delineamento experimental foi o de blocos ao acaso, com quatro repetições com cinco plantas cada. Não houve efeito dos porta-enxertos em: início da brotação, início da queda de folha, área foliar específi ca e maturação e massa de fruto. O diâmetro de tronco, comprimento de ramos, volume de copa, massa verde da poda e quantidade de clorofi la foram infl uenciados mais pelos porta-enxertos 'Capdeboscq', 'Okinawa' e 'Tsukuba 1'. O maior número de fl ores por ramo foi obtido com o porta-enxerto 'Capdeboscq'. Frutos mais avermelhados foram produzidos com o porta-enxerto 'GF 305', e os vermelhoamarelados com 'Okinawa'.Termos para indexação: Prunus, desenvolvimento, fenologia, fl oração, produtividade. The experiment was carried out using a randomized block design with four replicates, with fi ve plants each. No effect of the rootstocks was verifi ed on the beginning of leafi ng, and on leaf fall, leaf specifi c area, and fruit ripening and weight. The trunk diameter, length of branches, canopy volume, weight of the material removed by the pruning and chlorophyll content were better infl uenced by 'Capdeboscq', 'Okinawa' and 'Tsukuba 1'. The highest number of fl owers per branch was obtained with the rootstock 'Capdeboscq'. 'GF 305' provided redder fruits and 'Okinawa' redder-yellow fruits.

Resumo -O objetivo deste trabalho foi estabelecer um padrão para a caracterização molecular e a diferenciação de porta-enxertos de pessegueiro, bem como estimar parâmetros de variabilidade genética com base em marcadores codominantes. Catorze genótipos foram avaliados com uso de iniciadores para locos microssatélites das séries BPPCT e UDP, e para locos STS e SCAR. O perfil eletroforético foi registrado quanto à presença ou à ausência de bandas, as quais foram usadas para calcular a similaridade genética entre cultivares, por meio do coeficiente "simple matching", e para a análise de agrupamento de cultivares, pelo método das médias aritméticas não ponderadas (UPGMA). Foram calculados: número de alelos por loco, frequências alélicas, heterozigosidade esperada e observada, endogamia e conteúdo de informação polimórfica (PIC). Os 18 locos avaliados produziram 82 polimorfismos e permitiram elaborar um dendrograma que discriminou os genótipos em três grupos principais. A heterozigosidade esperada e observada nos 18 locos SSR foi de 0,66 e 0,22, respectivamente. Valores máximos para endogamia (1,0) foram identificados nos locos UDP 98407, UDP 98412, BPPCT 034, BPPCT 016, SCAR-SCAL 19 e STS OPAP4. O PIC variou de 0,81, para SCAR-SCAL 19, a 0,46, para UDP 98407. O polimorfismo dos 18 marcadores possibilita obter acurada relação genética entre os genótipos de pessegueiro avaliados e identificar os mais contrastantes para uso em programas de melhoramento. Molecular characterization and genetic variability among peach rootstocks based on codominant markersAbstract -The objective of this work was to establish a standard for molecular characterization and differentiation of peach rootstocks, as well to estimate genetic variability parameters based on codominant markers. Fourteen genotypes were evaluated using primers for microsatellite loci from the BPPCT and UDP series and for the STS and SCAR loci. The electrophoretic profile was recorded for the presence or absence of bands, which were used to calculate the genetic similarity among cultivars by the simple matching coefficient, and to perform cluster analysis by the unweighted arithmetic average (UPGMA) method. The number of alleles per locus, allele frequencies, observed and expected heterozygosity, inbreeding, and polymorphic information content (PIC) were calculated. The 18 loci produced 82 polymorphisms, allowing for the elaboration of a dendrogram, which discriminated the genotypes into three main groups. Observed and expected heterozygosity in the 18 SSR loci were 0.66 and 0.22, respectively. Maximum values for inbreeding (1.0) were identified in loci UDP 98407, UDP 98412, BPPCT 034, BPPCT 016, SCAR-SCAL 19, and STS OPAP4. PIC ranged from 0.81 for SCAR-SCAL 19, to 0.46 for UDP 98407.
