Influence of the temperature in germination of seeds of jabuticaba tree

Abstract: The jaboticaba tree (Myrciaria spp.) is originated from the center-south of Brazil and presents different types. It's a medium size tree, with tendency to form a crown with great number of branches. A characteristic considered as limitant for the commercial crop is the great juvenility, advicing producing good rootstocks of seedlings and graft wanted varieties, and other vegetative processes. With the purpose of evaluating the effect of temperature on germination of three clones of jaboticaba tree, was carried… Show more

“…The percentage of seedling emergence was higher (over 83%) in the 'CL4', 'CL5', ' PB3' and 'PB4' genotypes and all from the 'CV' site (except for 'CV4' and 'CV8'). Andrade and Martins (2003) detected variability in the germination percentage between three different jabuticaba genotypes, grown in Jaboticabal, São Paulo, ranging from 41 to 58%. In this experiment, the variability was even greater, since emergence ranged from 10.5 to 95.8%.…”

“…Thus, the seed propagation still prevails, despite all the implications that this technique may have. There are several reports that describe the influence of temperature, light, substrate, humidity and the fruit maturation stage in the germination processes of some of these species (VALIO;FERREIRA, 1992;MARTINS, 2003;ALEXANDRE et al, 2004;SENA et al, 2010).…”

“…Também Andrade (2003), ao testar a influência da temperatura na germinação de sementes de jabuticabeira, observou um PG de 76,62% em temperatura de 15 o C, em substrato de vermiculita, utilizando sementes completamente limpas, corroborando os resultados obtidos neste trabalho para o T1 aos 40 dias após semeadura, que foi de 76%.…”
