-This study aimed to evaluate economically the inclusion of prebiotics, probiotics and symbiotics in diets of Nile tilapia (4.07 ± 0.30 g), at two stocking densities (0.6 and 1.2 kg m -3 ). A total of 288 fish were distributed over 32 tanks (40 L) in a completely randomised design, in a 2 x 4 factorial (stocking density x additives), with four replications, over six weeks. The following were evaluated: total feed consumption (FC), final biomass (FB), relative gain in biomass (RGB), apparent feed conversion (AFC), survival rate (SUR), average cost of feed per kg of live weight gain (ACF), total cost of feed (TCF), total cost of production (TCP), gross income (GI), operating profit (OP) and economic efficiency index (EEI). No effect was seen on the evaluated parameters from the interaction (p>0.05) between stocking density and inclusion of the feed additives. No influence was observed (p>0.05) on SUR from the stocking density, although this significantly influenced the parameters FB, FC, RGB, AFC, ACF, TCF, TCP, GI and OP. There was no significant influence from the inclusion of prebiotics, probiotics and symbiotics on FC, SUR and TCF, however there was an influence (p<0.05) on the parameters FB, RGB, AFC, ACF, TCP, GI and OP. The control diet at the higher density displayed the worst EEI. The best EEI was obtained by fish at the lower density which received feed with added probiotics and symbiotics. The best indices of economic and zootechnical performance obtained demonstrate the economic viability of including prebiotics, probiotics and symbiotics in the diets of Nile tilapia.

The effect on tambaqui fingerlings performance caused by diets containing two different carbohydrate sources was evaluated. Four isoproteic diets with different mango meal concentrations (0, 33, 66 and 100%) replacing cornmeal were tested. The feeding trial lasted 45 days and the feeding rate was 8% of total biomass. 240 tambaqui fingerlings with an initial weight average of 3.66g were distributed in 12 500-liter tanks in a recirculating water system with biofilter. Performance, feed intake, carcass yield, survival, total cholesterol, plasmatic free amino acids, hepatic aspartate aminotransferase(AST), hepatic glycogen and plasma glucose values were evaluated. The results showed that weight gain, daily weight gain, specific growth rate, apparent food consumption, cholesterol, AST and glycogen showed higher values in the treatments with the highest levels of mango meal. Apparent feed conversion, carcass yield, survival and plasma glucose were not affected by the two sources of carbohydrates tested. In conclusion, mango meal used in a practical diet for tambaqui improved growth performance.

The objectives of this research were to evaluate the effects of the substitution of soybean oil by palm oil in the diet of Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) post-larvae, to observe the performance and attractiveness of the feed, and to evaluate the fatty acid methyl esters profile of palm oil. Four hundred Nile tilapias were used after hatching (seven days old), distributed in 20 fiberglass tanks of 20 L each. The experiment was carried out in a completely randomized design with five treatments and four replicates. The treatments consisted of different levels of inclusion of palm oil, which were: 0.0, 1.5, 3.0, 4.5 and 6.0 %. The concentration of monounsaturated and saturated fatty acids in palm oil was measured, resulting in high amounts of palmitic, oleic and linoleic fatty acids. Significant differences were observed for the variables final weight, total length, weight gain, specific growth rate and condition factor. No significant differences were observed for palatability of the diets. It is concluded that the inclusion of 3% or more palm oil in substitution of soybean oil during the masculinization stage of tilapia larvae contributes to the improvement of productive parameters.
