Show more

“…Several studies describe it as negative (Basanta et al, 2003), while others report a positive effect (Wood, 1991;Trivelin et al, 2002a). Relating the green cane harvesting system (without previous burning) with the soil properties and the yield potential of the sugarcane variety can help optimize the responses in sugarcane ratoon yield (Contin, 2007).…”

“…Studies indicate that the use efficiency of fertilizer N by sugarcane can vary from 20 to 40 % (Prasertsak et al, 2002;Trivelin et al, 2002b;Franco et al, 2008a;Franco et al, 2011;Vitti et al, 2011). This variation and low exploitation can be related to N loss in the soil-plant system, due to ammonia denitrification and volatilization (Trivelin et al, 2002a), leaching (Oliveira et al, 1999) and N gas loss by the aerial part of plants (Franco et al, 2008c).…”

“…To close balances a compartment C 20 was defined, which includes other non-evaluated compartments such as fertilizer-N below 1 m, fertilizer-N absorbed by neighboring plants, N lost in run-off water, N lost to the atmosphere (Trivelin et al, 2002) as well as errors committed in the evaluation of all other compartments. Data are presented as averages of five replicates and their respective standard errors.…”

“…The existence of the heavy nitrogen isotope ( 15 N) allows the production of compounds enriched in this isotope, characterized by having isotopic abundances above those naturally found. These compounds, in turn, allow the isotopic technique to be used in many research studies, and allow many of the aspects involved in the nitrogen cycle to be elucidated, in both the agronomic (soil-plantatmosphere system) (Trivelin et al, 2002) and biomedical fields (Dichi et al, 1998).…”
