SUMMarYthe technologies setting at agricultural production system have the main characteristics the vertical productivity, reduced costs, soil physical, chemical and biological improvement to promote production sustainable growth. thus, the study aimed to determine the variability and the linear and special correlations between the plant and soil attributes in order to select and indicate good representation of soil physical quality for forage productivity. in the growing season of 2006, on the Fazenda Bonança in pereira Barreto (Sp), the productivity of autumn corn forage (FdM) in an irrigated no-tillage system and the soil physical properties were analyzed. the purpose was to study the variability and the linear and spatial correlations between the plant and soil properties, to select an indicator of soil physical quality related to corn forage yield. a geostatistical grid was installed to collect soil and plant data, with 125 sampling points in an area of 2,500 m 2 . the results show that the studied properties did not vary randomly and that data variability was low to very high, with well-defined spatial patterns, ranging from 7.8 to 38.0 m. on the other hand, the linear correlation between the plant and the soil properties was low and highly significant. the pairs forage dry matter versus microporosity and stem diameter versus bulk density were best correlated in the 0-0.10 m layer, while the other pairs -forage dry matter versus macro -and total porosity -were inversely correlated in the same layer. However, from the spatial point of view, there was a high inverse correlation between forage dry matter with microporosity, so that microporosity in the 0-0.10 m layer can be considered a good indicator of soil physical quality, with a view to corn forage yield. index terms: soil physical properties, soil management, geostatistics, no-tillage, forage crops.

SUMMARYSoil tillage promotes changes in soil structure. The magnitude of the changes varies with the nature of the soil, tillage system and soil water content and decreases over time after tillage. The objective of this study was to evaluate short-term (one year period) and long-term (nine year period) effects of soil tillage and nutrient sources on some physical properties of a very clayey Hapludox. Five tillage systems were evaluated: no-till (NT), chisel plow + one secondary disking (CP), primary + two (secondary) diskings (CT), CT with burning of crop residues (CTb), and CT with removal of crop residues from the field (CTr), in combination with five nutrient sources: control without nutrient application (C); mineral fertilizers, according to technical recommendations for each crop (MF); 5 Mg ha -1 yr -1 of poultry litter (wetmatter) (PL); 60 m 3 ha -1 yr -1 of cattle slurry (CS) and; 40 m 3 ha -1 yr -1 of swine slurry (SS). Bulk density (BD), total porosity (TP), and parameters related to the water retention curve (macroporosity, mesoporosity and microporosity) were determined after nine years and at five sampling dates during the tenth year of the experiment. Soil physical properties were tillage and time-dependent. Tilled treatments increased total porosity and macroporosity, and reduced bulk density in the surface layer (0.00-0.05 m), but this effect decreased over time after tillage operations due to natural soil reconsolidation, since no external stress was applied in this period. Changes in pore size distribution were more pronounced in larger and medium pore diameter classes. ResumoEste trabalho teve como objetivo analisar a variabilidade espacial de atributos de eucalipto (Eucalyptus urophylla S.T. Blake) e atributos físicos de um Latossolo Vermelho distrófico em Selvíria (MS). A área de estudo possui cerca de 1,98 ha e as amostras de planta e solo foram coletadas em uma grade de amostragem contendo 122 pontos sendo: 84 pontos com espaçamento regular de 15 m e 38 pontos com espaçamento regular de 5 m. Os atributos de planta e solo analisados foram: perímetro na altura do peito, altura da planta, volume de madeira, resistência do solo à penetração e o teor de água no solo. Os atributos das plantas de eucalipto apresentaram moderada variabilidade espacial, ao passo que os atributos do solo apresentaram variabilidade moderada (RP 3 ) e forte (RP 1 ). O modelo exponencial foi o que mais se adequou para os ajustes dos atributos de planta e solo estudados. A correlação linear simples mostrou haver baixa correlação entre os atributos de Eucalyptus urophylla e os atributos físicos do solo.Palavras-chave: manejo do solo, agricultura de precisão, compactação do solo. Spatial variability of dendrometric properties of eucalyptus and physical attributes of a Rhodic Eutrudox AbstractThe objective of this work was to investigate the spatial variability of attributes of eucalyptus (Eucalyptus urophylla S.T. Blake) and physical attributes of a Rhodic Eutrudox at Selvíria (MS). The study area has about 1.98 ha and samples of plant and soil were collected in a sampling grid containing 122 points: 84 points with regular spacing of 15 m and 38 points with regular spacing of 5 m. The following attributes of plant and soil were analyzed: perimeter at chest height, height of the plant, volume of wood, soil penetration resistance and soil moisture content. The attributes of the eucalyptus plants showed medium spatial variability, while the attributes of the soil showed medium and low variability. The exponential model was the most appropriate settings for the attributes of plant and soil studies. Simple linear correlation showed low correlation between the attributes of Eucalyptus urophylla and the soil physical attributes.
