RESUMOO estudo busca identificar as dificuldades e facilidades na relação da equipe de enfermagem com os acompanhantes das crianças hospitalizadas, bem como as estratégias utilizadas para o fortalecimento dessa relação. A pesquisa é descritivo-exploratória e quantitativa e foi realizada em um hospital público. Utilizou-se um formulário com questões sobre as facilidades, dificuldades e estratégias utilizadas para melhorar a relação profissional do enfermeiro com o acompanhante. As principais dificuldades foram: falta de comunicação, de informação sobre o tratamento, de material e de profissionais, além de tratamento desigual entre as crianças. As facilidades mais citadas foram: ser bom profissional tecnicamente, orientar sobre o tratamento, ter bom relacionamento, manter diálogo, fazer medicações na hora certa e prestar uma assistência adequada à criança. As estratégias mais utilizadas foram: manter diálogo, transmitir confiança técnica, compreender e respeitar o outro e respeitar as normas do hospital. É importante que o enfermeiro receba esse acompanhante para integrá-lo na equipe, negociando suas funções na assistência à criança.Palavras-chave: Família. Enfermagem Pediátrica. This study develops a theoretical model concerning the experience of families of children with Down syndrome in preschool and school age. The frameworks used were Symbolic Interactionism and Grounded Theory. Semi-structured interviews were used as the instrument of investigation and ten families participated in the study. The Theoretical Model "Seeking the child's independence and autonomy through constant stimulation" was identified, which shows the family's efforts to enable the child to develop the best s/he can through stimulation in order to become less dependent in the future. This model can be used to facilitate interaction with the family and can be further expanded. Nurses should use spaces dedicated to care delivery to establish bonds with the family, and seek other spaces families frequent, to better meet their needs, since there are significant gaps in care and research addressing this population. Instead, they should be welcomed and seen as a partner in care delivery. Independencia del niño con síndrome de Down: la experiencia de la familia El objetivo del trabajo fue desarrollar un Modelo Teórico sobre la experiencia de familias de niños con síndrome de Down en edad pre escolar y escolar. Los marcos utilizados fueron el Interaccionismo Simbólico y la Teoría Fundamentada en los Datos. Utilizamos la entrevista semiestructurada como instrumento de investigación, siendo que diez familias participaron del estudio. Se identificó el Modelo Teórico: "Buscando la independencia y autonomía del niño a través de la estimulación constante", que muestra el esfuerzo por obtener el mejor desarrollo del niño a través de estimulaciones, para un futuro menos dependiente. Esto puede ser tomado como facilitador de la interacción con la familia, con perspectivas de ser ampliado. El enfermero debe aprovechar espacios de actuación para establecer vínculos con la familia, buscar los escenarios predominantemente frecuentados por ella, para atender mejor sus demandas, ya que existen lagunas significativas de atención e investigación junto a esta población, que precisa ser acogida y tratada como aliada en el cuidado.Descriptores: Síndrome de Down; Enfermería de la Familia; Enfermería Pediátrica.

RESUMOA infância apresenta-se como uma fase que exige bastante atenção da família e do serviço de saúde, uma vez que seus integrantes, além de dependerem de familiares, são vulneráveis ao ambiente. Objetivou-se descrever as vivências de familiares de crianças internadas em um serviço de prontosocorro, discutir como essas vivências influenciam no cotidiano da família e relatar os aspectos que interferem no cuidado de enfermagem. Estudo descritivo, de abordagem qualitativa, desenvolvido em um hospital de urgência da rede privada. Utilizou a técnica de entrevista com dez familiares para produzir os dados. Estes foram submetidos à análise temática, elaborando-se três categorias: vivências do familiar, alterações no cotidiano da família, a fé e a aproximação familiar atuando como agentes facilitadores. Concluiu-se que o ser acompanhante passa por adaptações, ao vivenciar a hospitalização, existindo alterações na rotina familiar. Porém, devido aos conflitos vivenciados pelo familiar, a enfermagem deve compreendê-lo como sujeito do cuidado ampliado. DESCRITORES ABSTRACTChildhood is a phase that requires much attention from the family and the health service, because family members, besides depending on relatives, are vulnerable to the environment. The objective of this study was to describe the experiences of relatives of children hospitalized in an emergency care service, discuss on how those experiences affect the everyday life of the family and report the aspects that interfere in the nursing care. This descriptive study was performed using a qualitative approach, and was developed in a private emergency hospital. Interviews were performed with ten family members to obtain the data. The data was submitted to thematic analysis, and three categories were elaborated: experiences of the family member, changes in the everyday life of the family, the faith of the family and their closeness as facilitating agents. In conclusion, the person accompanying the patient goes thorough adaptations, whilst experiencing hospitalization, with changes to the routine of the family. However, because of the conflicts experienced by the family member, nursing should see them as a subject of the extended care. DESCRIPTORS
