Impacto do desmatamento e formação de pastagens sobre a anurofauna de serapilheira em Rondônia

Abstract: ABSTRACT. The impact of deforestation and pastures on the leaf-litter frog community in Rondônia, Brazil. Abundance and diversity of leaf-litter frog species were studied in forest and pasture in Rondonia, Brazil. Also, the efficiency of use of pitfall traps was examined. Pitfall traps were established in three treatments: forest interior far (> 100 m) from water; forest interior near (< 100 m) water; pasture, far from water. Species richness was typical of the Amazon region, with a total of 1,324 individuals … Show more

“…For example, in the Caatinga, VIEIRA et al (2009) recorded only a few of the species observed in the present study, but identified seven of the reproductive modes encountered here. By contrast, the species composition recorded by studies in Cerrado-dominated vegetation in Rondônia is more similar to that of the present study (14 shared species), but once again, with seven reproductive modes in common (BERNARDE & MACEDO 2008, TURCI & BERNARDE 2008. In other words, even though distinct sets of species may be present at different sites, the similarities in their reproductive modes may be determined by the ecological characteristics of the site.…”

“…Changes in the landscape, such as deforestation and habitat fragmentation, may also lead to changes in the reproductive modes found in a particular region, local species extinction, and possibly more specialized reproductive modes (e.g. BERNARDE & MACEDO 2008). However, it is also possible to observe reproductive plasticity in amphibians that do not succumb in the face of environmental changes, for instance Dendropsophus ebraccatus (Cope, 1874).…”

“…Leptodactylus (L.) lineatus was the fourth most abundant anuran species captured in pitfall traps (BERNARDE & MACEDO, 2008). By comparison, during a snake community study, only four individuals (three juveniles amid the leaf litter in the forest and one adult under a fallen tree trunk in pasture areas) were observed in 960 hours of visual encounter surveys (BERNARDE & ABE, 2006).…”

“…During a research studies conducted on anuran communities in the municipality of Espigão do Oeste, State of Rondônia (Brazil) (see BERNARDE, 2007;BERNARDE & MACEDO, 2008), we captured several individuals of Leptodactylus (L.) lineatus. In this paper we present data on the occurrence of this species (males, females and juveniles) over the course of a year and some reproductive information (calling activity of males, number and diameter of ovarian eggs in females).…”

“…Ainda, comunidades de anfíbios e pequenos répteis em áreas de floresta amazônica apresentam rápida resposta às alterações na cobertura florestal (e.g. Tocher et al 1997, Gardner et al 2007, Bernarde & Macedo 2008, Souza et al 2008, mesmo às alterações discretas como no corte florestal seletivo (Vitt et al 1998).…”
