A new karyotype of Calomys (Rodentia, Sigmodontinae)

Abstract: The genus Calomys Waterhouse, 1837 is widely distributed within South America, being found in Venezuela, Colombia, Peru, Bolivia, Brazil, Paraguay, Uruguay and Argentina. Specimens of Calomys were collected in Formoso do Araguaia, Tocantins, Brazil. For chromosome characterization standard staining techniques and as Gbanding and nucleolar organizer region were used. The karyotype was 2n=46 and AN=66. The X chromosome is a medium metacentric and the Y chromosome a small acrocentric chromosome. Chromosome homolo… Show more

“…In our study, it always formed a monophyletic group strongly associated with C. callosus s.s. (Figures 2 and 3). All cytogenetic studies have revealed a 2n = 46 (FN = 66; Bonvicino et al, 2003Bonvicino et al, , 2010Fagundes et al, 2000;Lima & Kasahara, 2001). Specimens of C. tocantinsi have been collected in several sites in the Tocantins, and Mato Grosso states from Brazil corresponding to the Cerrado ecoregion and its ecotone with the Amazonian rainforest (Salazar-Bravo, 2015).…”
