Introduction: The environment in which the child is inserted and motor opportunities offered to this is essential for a good motor development Objective: To analyze the relationship between the motor stimulation opportunities in the family environment and children's motor development of both sex. Method: were evaluated 72 children, 33 boys and 39 girls with age of 38 to 42 months. The evaluation was conducted by Affordances in the Home Environment for Motor Development (AHEMD) and the Test of Gross Motor Development-2 (TGMD-2). Were used the tests Chi-square, Fisher exact test, t test for independent samples, Pearson correlation and multiple linear regression. Results: In general, the households have low opportunities for motor stimulation, and for households with boys the score is higher. The girls performed better in locomotor skills, while boys had higher scores on object control skills. It found a significant correlation to motricity materials and thick materials motor for boys and variety of stimulation, fine motor materials, motricity materials and motor stimulation for girls. For the boys the motor performance is explained by the available variables of fine and gross motor skills and for the girls by materials of motor stimulation, stimulation variety and materials of fine and gross motor skills. Conclusion: On the presented results we can conclude that the home environment is directly related to the motor development of girls and boys.

RESUMO Crianças com síndrome de Down apresentam atrasos no desenvolvimento neuropsicomotor relacionados a tônus muscular, controle postural e equilíbrio. O desenvolvimento motor sofre interferência multifatorial, que envolve características biológicas, psicológicas, sociais e ambientais. Assim, o ambiente em que o lactente está incluído pode atuar como facilitador do desenvolvimento neuropsicomotor. O objetivo deste estudo foi avaliar a influência do ambiente domiciliar no desenvolvimento motor de lactentes com síndrome de Down. Participaram do estudo 16 lactentes com a síndrome, divididos em grupo I (3 a 11 meses) e grupo II (12 a 18 meses), avaliados pela Alberta Infant Motor Scale (AIMS) e pelo questionário Affordances in the Home Environment for Motor Development - Infant Scale (AHEMD-IS). A análise de dados foi feita por meio do teste de Kruskal-Wallis, coeficiente de correlação de Spearman e teste de razão de verossimilhança. Os resultados evidenciaram uma correlação positiva significativa entre o escore bruto da AIMS e a variedade de estímulos (p=0,01, r=0,78) e com o escore total do questionário AHEMD-IS (p=0,02, r=0,74) no grupo II. Verificou-se, ainda, correlação entre a renda familiar e as oportunidades com brinquedos de função motora grossa (p=0,05, r=0,49), porém com correlação fraca. Conclui-se que o ambiente domiciliar tem importante papel no desenvolvimento motor de crianças com síndrome de Down entre 12 e 18 meses, por proporcionar oportunidades de vivências e experimentações. Assim, pode-se afirmar que ambientes mais adequados proporcionam melhor desempenho motor.

Introdução: Diferenças relacionadas ao peso e às habilidades motoras em crianças em idade escolar ainda apresentam controvérsias. Objetivo: Analisar a relação entre desenvolvimento motor e nível de atividade física com o índice de massa corporal (IMC) de escolares com excesso de peso. ABSTRACT Introduction:In school-age children, differences in weight and motor skills are still controversial. Objective: To analyze the relation between motor development, level of physical activity, and body mass index (BMI) in children with overweight. Methods: 85 students of both genders, aged 6 to 10 years, living in Presidente Prudente, São Paulo, Brazil, were evaluated. The instruments used were: the classification of BMI/age, the Motor Development Scale and the Modified and Adapted Questionnaire of Level of Physical Activity. The sample was divided into two groups: the overweight group (OWG) was composed of 50 students with nutritional diagnosis of overweight and obesity; the normal weight group (NWG) was composed of 35 eutrophic students. The following tests were used for statistical analysis: Shapiro Wilk (data normality), Student's t test or Mann-Whitney (independent samples), Spearman's test (correlation) and χ 2 test (proportion), with significance level set at p<0.05. Results: The OWG had significantly lower results for general motor development (91.32±10.68 versus 97.14±9.06; p=0.010), fine motricity (93.21±21.59 versus 103.1±13.12; p=0.0138) and gross motricity (90.31±23.54 versus 112.6±16.07; p=0.0001). A significant positive correlation was found between level of physical activity and motor development in OWG subjects in the domains balance (0.35080; p=0.0125) and spatial organization (0.41820; p=0.0025). Conclusion: When OWG is compared to NWG, results are inferior for general motricity, fine motricity, and gross motricity.
