Objective: to identify the knowledge and adherence of nurses to the standard precautions in critical care units. Method: descriptive and cross-sectional study, with a quantitative approach, with the population of nurses from a university hospital in the Distrito Federal, Brazil. For data collection, three instruments were used. A semi-structured questionnaire with identification and occupational data of nurses, the questionnaire to evaluate knowledge to standard precautions and the Questionnaire of adherence to standard precautions. Descriptive analysis was used with absolute and relative frequency values. Results: the population was composed of 40 participating nurses, 75% were female, with an average age of 32.5 years, ranging from 24 to 50 years. Professionals with five or more years of training (67.5%) predominated, 25 (62.5%) had only one job and had experience in the area of critical patient care for more than three years. Although with a high percentage of accuracy, with regard to the moments that required hand hygiene, this frequency was 97.5%. Gloves are always used for intramuscular or subcutaneous injection by 67.5% of professionals, but 17.5% still consider it unnecessary to wear disposable caps and surgical shoe covers. The use of sharps, handling and reporting of occupational accidents were not performed as expected. Conclusion: gaps were identified in relation to the knowledge and adherence of nurses in units that provide care to critical patients of a university hospital with regard to standard precautions.

Standard precautions (SP) are recommendations to prevent infection and protect health care workers during the provision of care, however, still exists low adherence to these recommendations. Objective: To analyze the reasons and consequences of low adherence to standard precautions by the nursing staff . Method: integrative literature review, search in seven databases, from 2005 to 2014. Results: 30 articles were selected for analysis. The reasons for low adherence evidenced relate to defi cient practices of lifelong learning, risk behaviors of workers, inadequate provision of equipment and protective equipment and inadequate working conditions. The consequences are accidents and occupational diseases. There are few intervention studies, which merely provide guidance to professionals. Conclusions:The low adhesion to standard precautions is linked to individual aspects of workers, employers and educational institutions. Intervention strategies carried out have shown little effi cient by only focusing on the worker. Keywords: Standard precautions. Universal precautions. Occupational health. Accident prevention. Nursing, team. RESUMOAs precauções padrão (PP) são recomendações para prevenir infecções e proteger os trabalhadores de saúde durante a prestação de cuidados. Porém, constata-se baixa adesão a estas recomendações. Objetivo: Analisar os motivos e as consequências da baixa adesão às PP pela equipe de enfermagem. Método: Revisão integrativa da literatura, busca em sete bases de dados, período de 2005 a 2014. Resultados: 30 artigos foram selecionados para análise. Os motivos da baixa adesão evidenciados relacionam-se a práticas defi citárias de educação permanente, comportamentos de risco de trabalhadores, provisão de material e equipamentos de proteção inadequados e condições de trabalho inadequadas. As consequências são os acidentes e as doenças do trabalho. Os estudos de intervenção são escassos e limitam-se à educação dos profi ssionais. Conclusões: A baixa adesão às PP está vinculada a aspectos individuais dos trabalhadores e às instituições empregadoras e formadoras. As estratégias de intervenção realizadas mostram-se pouco efi cientes por focar apenas o trabalhador. Palavras-chave: Precauções padrão. Precauções universais. Saúde ocupacional. . RESUMOObjetivo: criar um instrumento, denominado "Alfabetização em Saúde quanto a Prática de atividade entre Diabéticos (ASPAF-D)", e verificar a sua validade, confiabilidade e interpretabilidade. Métodos: estudo metodológico, com as seguintes etapas na criação: estabelecimento da estrutura conceitual, escolha da população de estudo, definição dos objetivos do construto e elaboração dos itens, seleção e organização desses itens, estruturação; verificação da validade de conteúdo; pré-teste; estimativa da confiabilidade (consistência interna: Alfa de Cronbach; reprodutibilidade: kappa-K, Coeficiente de Correlação Intraclasse-CCI); estimativa da validade de critério (convergente/preditiva); interpretabilidade a partir dos acertos das associações de palavras principais com escores de 0 a 18 (corte ≤ 14) e teste de hipótese (regressão logística p≤0,05). Resultados: a validade de conteúdo foi satisfatória. Constataram-se: alfa=0,74, K<0,60 (insatisfatório) em uma dentre as 18 palavras e CCI=0,746. Quanto à validade de critério, constatou-se correlação com a escolaridade (rs=0,876; p=0,00) e acurácia=72,27%. Dos 256 participantes, 229 (89,5%) apresentaram ASPAF-D >14 (alfabetização adequada). Sua aplicação e interpretabilidade é fácil e rápida. A regressão evidenciou que os mais jovens e os que apresentaram maior escolaridade apresentaram maiores níveis de alfabetização em relação a prática de atividade física. Conclusão: o ASPAF-D foi considerado válido, confiável e de fácil interpretação, podendo ser utilizado para avaliar alfabetização quanto a prática de atividade entre diabéticos.
