Studies on rootstocks and scions are of major importance for citrus crop production. The goal of this study was to evaluate vegetative growth, yield performance, and fruit quality of ‘Navelina’ sweet orange trees grafted on five different rootstocks in Northern Parana state, Brazil. The experimental design was completely randomized blocks, with six replications, two plants per plot, and five treatments: ‘Rangpur’ lime; ‘Cleopatra’ mandarin, ‘Sunki’ mandarin; ‘Swingle’ citrumelo; and ‘Fepagro C-13’ citrange. Tree vegetative growth, yield performance, and fruit physical-chemical characteristics were analyzed. ‘Sunki’ mandarin provided the largest canopy volume for ‘Navelina’ sweet orange trees, whereas ‘Swingle’ citrumelo, ‘Fepagro C-13’ citrange, and ‘Rangpur’ lime provided a smaller volume for tree canopy. Compared to Rangpur lime, ‘Swingle’ citrumelo provided higher accumulated yield and production efficiency for ‘Navelina’ sweet orange trees. All rootstocks induced good physical and chemical quality to ‘Navelina’ sweet orange fruits.

Resumo -O objetivo deste trabalho foi determinar o coeficiente de repetibilidade de características de qualidade do fruto de laranjeira-doce (Citrus sinensis) e o número mínimo de avaliações capaz de proporcionar níveis de certeza da predição do valor real dos genótipos. Foram avaliados, em cinco safras, 39 genótipos de laranjeira-doce, coletados em nove municípios do Estado do Acre. Utilizou-se o delineamento de blocos ao acaso, com três repetições. Foram avaliados: massa média de frutos, rendimento de suco, espessura de casca, sólidos solúveis (SS), acidez total (AT), relação SS/AT e índice tecnológico. Para a estimativa dos coeficientes de repetibilidade, foram utilizados os métodos da análise de variância, dos componentes principais e da análise estrutural. Todos os caracteres avaliados mostraram variabilidade, exceto o rendimento de suco. Os caracteres avaliados mostraram padrão cíclico, o que foi mais bem captado pelas metodologias multivariadas de estimativa do coeficiente de repetibilidade. São necessárias 15 avaliações para determinar, com 90% de certeza, os caracteres espessura de casca e sólidos solúveis, e 11, 6, 3, 2 e 1 avaliações, respectivamente para massa média de fruto, acidez total, índice tecnológico, rendimento de suco e relação SS/AT.Termos para indexação: Citrus sinensis, análise multivariada, índice tecnológico, melhoramento genético, rendimento de suco, sólidos solúveis. Repeatability estimates for fruit quality characters of sweet orangeAbstract -The objective of this work was to determine the repeatability coefficient of fruit quality characteristics of sweet orange (Citrus sinensis) and the minimum number of evaluations that can provide levels of prediction certainty of the true genotype value. Thirty nine genotypes of sweet orange, collected in nine municipalities of the state of Acre, Brazil, were evaluated in five crop cycles. A randomized complete block design was used, with three replicates. The following were evaluated: average fruit weight, juice yield, peel thickness, soluble solids (SS), total acidity (TA), SS/TA ratio, and technological index. To estimate the repeatability coefficients, the methods of analysis of variance, principal component analysis, and structural analysis were used. All evaluated characters showed variability, except for juice yield. The evaluated characters showed a cyclic pattern, which was best captured by the multivariate methodologies for estimating the repeatability coefficient. Fifteen evaluations are needed to determine, with 90% certainty, the characters peel thickness and soluble solids, and 11, 6, 3, 2, and 1 evaluations, respectively for average fruit weight, total acidity, technological index, juice yield, and SS/TA ratio, respectively.

Fruit development of sweet passion fruit in Viçosa, Minas GeraisThe physical, chemical and physiological changes during the development of sweet passion fruit, from anthesis to ripening in the plant, were evaluated. Fruits had a slightly oblong shape, a simple sigmoidal pattern of development and climacteric pattern for respiration. Fruit development was divided into three phases: cell division up to 4.70 days after anthesis (daa); cell expansion from 4.70 daa to 28.94 daa and maturation from 28.94 to 91 daa. In the cell division phase, there is little increase in fruit size, high respiratory rates, rapid growth of the pericarp thickness, and pericarp of clear green color. In the cell expansion phase, there is intense development of the fruit's dimensions, accelerated fresh weight gain and pericarp of intense green color . In the maturation phase, there is a tendency to stabilize dimensions, rapid development of pulp, the soluble solids content increase and vitamin C and titratable acidity decrease. The climacteric peak was recorded at 63 daa. On the last day of evaluation, at 91 daa, the pulp (juice + seeds) accounted for 24.46% of total fresh weight of the fruit, the pericarp accounted for 74.10% and isolated seeds for 3.14%.
