“…10,50,51 The S pO 2 value usually reflects S aO 2 , especially when > 90%, with normal values of S pO 2 and S aO 2 ranging from 3% to 5%, respectively. 50,52 Helayel et al 53 reported that S pO 2 values $ 99% ruled out the possibility of S aO 2 < 90% in critically ill or surgical patients. Jubran et al 52 considered that limits between 92% and 94% should be targets to avoid S aO 2 < 90%, which corresponds to mild hypoxemia.…”

“…In affirmative cases, it was observed if the patient was able to keep a respiratory pattern in the cannula occlusion, what was essential to initiate the decannulation process. The maintenance of the breathing pattern was considered when the patient was able to maintain oxygen saturation levels in the blood (SpO 2 ) above 90% (21) . The oxygen saturation in the blood was measured by pulse oximetry and monitored throughout the assessment by the speech therapist.…”

“…Pulse oximetry is a noninvasive physiometric method used to determine the peripheral oxygen saturation (SpO 2 ) of oxygenated hemoglobin (oxyhemoglobin) in the blood [ 9 ]. In other words, SpO 2 is the percentage of the level of total arterial oxygen saturation (SaO 2 ) present in the blood (oxyhemoglobin and deoxyhemoglobin) [ 10 , 11 ]. The pulse oximeter (PO) consists of a device that has a sensor with two light-emitting diodes [ 11 ].…”
