Aroeira (Myracrodruon urundeuva) is a widely spread tree species, but due to its excellent wood quality it is now part of the list of vulnerable trees for extinction. Thus, strategies for the conservation of the genetic variability of the remaining natural populations are needed. Therefore, this study aimed to evaluate the genetic variability in M. urundeuva progeny tests, from natural populations located in areas with and without human disturbance. Seeds of six natural populations of M. urundeuva were collected from two conditions, with and without anthropogenic disturbance, and nine progeny tests were installed in the Education, Research and Extension Farm, located in Selvíria, Mato Grosso do Sul State, Brazil. The overall height, average crown diameter (DMC) and the diameter at breast height (DBH) were assessed as phenotypic traits. Estimates of variance components and genetic parameters were obtained by REML/BLUP method (maximum restricted likelihood/best unbiased linear prediction). The results showed that natural population with human disturbance presented less genetic variability than populations originating from areas without human disturbance (CV r until 0.87). The progeny tests evaluated had high accuracy (0.91 for DBH), which ensures the viability of the ex situ genetic conservation bank and its successful use in the breeding program, i.e., in the conversion of the progeny tests into M. urundeuva seed orchards. The most suitable character for selection was the DBH.

Successful establishment of a rubber tree plantation may be affected by the initial soil management at the time of planting. However, research on the longterm development of rubber tree plantations and initial soil treatment is scarce. Thus, this study evaluated agronomic characteristics, organic carbon and its stock and their relation to soil attributes in a 32-year-old rubber tree plantation. The experiment adopted a randomized block design with two rubber tree clones (RRIM 600 and FX 2261) and five planting systems (P1: 0.4 x 0.6 m planting hole; P2: 0.35 x 0.4 m planting hole; P3: 0.45 x 0.45 m furrow; P4: 0.35 x 0.8 m planting hole; P5: 0.25 x 0.5 m planting hole) with four replications. The trunk circumference at breast height, height of first bifurcation, bark thickness, total organic carbon in litterfall and carbon stocks in soil were evaluated. The planting systems used for the rubber trees and clones did not influence the trunk circumference at breast height or height of first bifurcation. The bark thickness of FX 2261 was greater than that of RRIM 600. The soil's physical attributes were not affected by different planting systems or clones. The soil of the rubber tree plantation includes significant amounts of carbon absorbed from the atmosphere as CO 2 .

RESUMO:A seringueira é importante para a economia brasileira pela sua participação na fabricação de pneus, artefatos de borracha e também em produtos de uso médico. O crescimento da demanda por borracha natural requer o desenvolvimento de novos clones de seringueira que apresentem características agronômicas, tais como produção e vigor e tecnológicas do látex superiores. Foi instalado no município de Campinas-SP um experimento com 20 progênies de meios-irmãos provenientes de clones superiores do germoplasma estabelecido no ano de 1952 no Centro Experimental Central. Utilizou-se o delineamento de blocos ao acaso, com quatro repetições, 10 plantas por parcela, no espaçamento de 2 x 2 m. Aos seis e aos 12 meses de idade foram avaliados os caracteres altura da planta e diâmetro do caule. As progênies em estudo apresentaram um bom comportamento em relação aos caracteres avaliados. A progênie AVROS 1328 mostrou o maior valor aos 12 meses de idade para a altura da planta e o diâmetro do caule. Existe a possibilidade de obter grande sucesso com a seleção das melhores plantas desta progênie.Palavras-chave: Borracha natural. Hevea brasiliensis. Crescimento. Variabilidade genética. EVALUATION OF THE INITIAL PERFORMANCES OF RUBBER TREE PROGENIES SUMMARY:The rubber tree is currently the sole commercial source of natural rubber. Its importance is given for their participation in the production of tires, rubber products and also in medical devices. The growth of the natural rubber required the development of new rubber tree clones with superior agronomics and technologic latex traits. In Campinas, São Paulo State, a test was established using 20 half-sib progenies from superior clones presented in the rubber tree bank dated 1952 on the Instituto Agronômico (IAC). An experimental design in randomized block was used with 4 replications, 10 plants per plot spaced on 2x2m. At six and 12 months after transplanting plant height and diameter were evaluated. The progenies showed good performance for the analysed traits. The progenie AVROS 1328 showed the higher value for plant height and diameter for both ages. There is the possibility of success through the selection among this progenies.Keywords: Natural rubber. Hevea brasiliensis. Growth. Genetic variability. Muell.-Arg., também conhecida popularmente por seringueira é a espécie mais importante do ponto de vista comercial entre as onze existentes do gênero. É originária do continente americano, precisamente da floresta amazônica do Brasil, e é extremamente importante para o país, em função da utilização do seu látex bem como da sua madeira (GONÇALVES et al., 1990).A madeira da seringueira possui como principal característica o alto teor de carboidratos, qualificando-a como excelente matéria-prima para o segmento moveleiro. Suas principais finalidades são móveis residenciais, de escritório, forro e escadas (KRONKA, 2008).
