Among the disorders of language, the disorder known as Specific Language Impairment (SLI) has aroused the interest of many researchers due to the peculiarity of this disorder, which refers to the great difficulty in developing language skills in the absence of hearing impairment, motor deficit, mental retardation, brain damage, broad development disorders, acquired brain injuries and restricted social interaction. Some researchers have demonstrated that subjects with SLI have deficits in short-term memory skills and the phonological component of working memory leading to semantic and syntactic difficulties. The aim of the study was to compare the performance of children with SLI and normal children using the phonological working memory (PWM) test and verify if there is an association between performance on this test and a test that assesses reading and writing in children with SLI. We selected 44 school children, whose ages ranged between seven and 10 years old, 22 of whom had SLI-Study Group (SG)-and 22 with typical language development (TLD). All subjects were subjected to the Phonological Working Memory Test and Measures Analysis of Reading and Writing. For statistical analysis, we used the Chi-square test. Data analysis showed that children in the SG performed worse than the CG in all the tests that evaluated the PWM indicating that Portuguese speaking children with SLI have a significant gap in their PWM and that this gap can explain the difficulties with oral language. Data analysis showed an association between the nonword repetition test and reading text, dictation and spontaneous writing, suggesting that the difficulties encountered in the field of written language in children with SLI may be connected, even in part, to difficulties in the PWM. This study compared the effects of two metacognitive interventions on writing, working memory (WM), and behavioral symptoms of students with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). The disorder was clinically diagnosed by a multidisciplinary team according to DSM-IV criteria. The first approach consisted of a combined intervention in text production and WM while the second focused only on WM. Participants were 47 students from the fifth to ninth grades of two public elementary schools in Porto Alegre (Brazil), randomized to one of the two interventions groups. Writing and WM were assessed before, immediately after, and 3 months after the interventions. The results suggest that both interventions contributed to improving behavior and school performance, whereas only the combined intervention increased the overall quality of narrative text, organization of paragraphs, and denouement.

RESUMOObjetivo: Relacionar erros na escrita em português, características do ambiente familiar, idade e sexo de crianças bilíngües Alemão-Português. Métodos: Vinte crianças bilíngües alemão/português realizaram ditado balanceado, e seus pais responderam a um questionário. Os tipos de erros na escrita em Português foram classificados e quantificados, e posteriormente relacionados às respostas dos pais no questionário aplicado. Resultados: Houve menos erros relacionados à troca, substituição aleatória, inversão, transposição, omissão e adição de grafemas, e mais erros relacionados às irregularidades da língua portuguesa. A maioria dos pais possuía material escrito em casa; quando mais de uma pessoa lia em casa e quanto maior a escolaridade paterna, maior o número de crianças com menos erros na escrita; quanto menor a escolaridade materna, maior o número de estudantes com mais erros na escrita. Quanto mais novas as crianças, mais erros de todos os tipos. Os meninos apresentaram mais erros na escrita do que as meninas. Conclusões:Mesmo sendo os participantes deste estudo todos bilíngües, a maioria dos achados foi compatível com os encontrados em outras pesquisas com crianças monolíngües do Português Brasileiro.Descritores: Linguagem; Estudantes; Escrita manual; Características familiares; Multilingüismo INTRODUÇÃOLevar o aluno ao aprendizado da leitura e da escrita e assegurar a aprendizagem escolar têm-se tornado um grande desafio para os governos, instituições de ensino e docentes (1) . Concomitantemente, o principal desafio dos alunos é o êxito escolar (2) e, para enfrentá-lo, é preciso contar com a família e a escola como sistemas de suporte fundamentais (3)(4) . O aprendizado da leitura e da escrita está relacionado a condições reais para que as crianças se tornem motivadas. Neste sentido, é importante que elas tenham experiência funcional prévia com material impresso, acesso a contextos narrativos e um contexto de ensino-aprendizagem inteligente (5) . Os atos cotidianos de conviver com adultos, na família e/ ou na escola, que lêem um livro ou um jornal, que redigem um bilhete, que fazem anotações, isto é, com pessoas que utilizam textos escritos como fonte, seja de informação, seja de entretenimento, contribuem para que as crianças percebam as diferentes formas de apresentação do texto escrito, bem como identifiquem seus diferentes sentidos e funções. Desse modo, se desperta o interesse e o desejo de aprender a ler e a escrever (6) . A aprendizagem da leitura e da escrita é processual e se constrói em ritmo diferente em cada indivíduo (6) . É possível sugerir, então, que boas situações de aprendizagem proporcionadas pelo ambiente familiar e escolar podem tornar-se diferenciais neste processo.Um estudo recente com alunos da segunda série do Ensino Fundamental e com pais universitários verificou que a leitura conjunta entre pais e filhos resulta em melhora significativa do desempenho da leitura e da escrita.
