CA72-4 antigen levels in serum and peritoneal washing in gastric cancer: correlation with morphological aspects of neoplasia

Abstract: -Background -Determining levels of tumor markers in peritoneal washing enables likelihood of peritoneal recurrence to be ascertained in patients with high marker levels, thereby allowing provision of more accurate adjuvant treatment and postoperative follow up. Aim -To analyze the relationship between levels of tumor marker CA72-4 in serum and peritoneal washing, and morphological aspects of gastric carcinoma. Method -This study analyzed 32 consecutively-operated patients with gastric carcinoma, who underwent … Show more

“…noted that the chemo‐sensitivity of GC patients was not associated with pretreatment CA72‐4 levels . Although elevated concentration of CA72‐4 in the peritoneal washes of GC patients was closely associated with the involvement of the lymph nodes, serosa organ invasion and advanced disease, serum CA72‐4 levels were not closely linked to these phenomena . All results of the studies mentioned above are in agreement with ours.…”

“…Yoon et al declared that chemo-sensitivity of GC patients was not associated with pretreatment CA72-4 levels [23]. Although the elevated concentrations of CA72-4 in the peritoneal washing of GC patients were closely associated with the involvement of lymph nodes, serosa organ invasion and more advanced condition of disease, levels of CA72-4 in serum did not show a close link as mentioned above [24]. All results of researches mentioned above are in agreement with ours.…”

“…And it is difficult to give proper personalized treatment to each patient and to identify the patients with cancer relapse and metastasis at the earliest possible time. There are many factors that may affect the prognosis [1] , and serum biomarkers CEA [2][3][4] , CA19-9 [5][6][7] , CA72-4 [8][9][10][11] , CA242 [12] and a combination of the all [13,14] are widely used prognostic factors. When anastomotic recurrence or distant metastasis is revealed by assistance of tumor markers or medical imaging, gastric cancer can not usually be cured by further surgery.…”
