Diagnostic role of carbohydrate antigen 72‐4 for gastrointestinal malignancy screening in Chinese patients: A prospective study

Abstract: Objective Over the past decades, carbohydrate antigen 72‐4 (CA72‐4) was thought to be a tumor marker that was elevated in healthy individuals and patients with malignancies, including gastrointestinal (GI), ovarian, endometrial and lung malignancies. Furthermore, studies found that elevated serum CA72‐4 might predict digestive tumors, especially gastric tumors, although there was still neither a sensitive nor specific tumor biomarker for gastric cancer (GC). This study aimed to evaluate the diagnostic accuracy… Show more

“…In addition, CA199 ranked second among all variables and first among tumor markers with an importance coefficient of 0.180, indicating that CA199 might have a non-negligible importance in the diagnosis of gastric cancer, which is consistent with the research results of Yang Rong et al 24 . In this study, the participation of CA724 in the model was very low, so we speculated that the value of CA724 in gastric cancer screening was dispensable, which was consistent with the results of Wang et al 25 . Besides, in the previous study on the correlation of indicators, we found that the Pearson’s correlation coefficient between CA242 and CA199 reached 0.765, which was a strong correlation.…”

“…Thus, CD8A may exhibit potential as a biomarker of tumor microenvironment remodeling and as a promising predictor of immunotherapy efficacy. Carbohydrate Antigen 72–4 (CA72-4) is a routine serum tumor marker used in clinical practice ( 30 ). Results of a previous study ( 31 ) revealed that CA72-4 may increase sensitivity and specificity when combined with other biomarkers, like CEA.…”

“…CA 15-3 levels can be higher some kinds of cancer, CA 15.3 may be increased in lung, pancreas, OC, and prostate cancer and some non-cancerous conditions [13]. Carbohydrate antigen and Carbohydrate antigen 72-4 (CA 72-4) have become common tumor markers for digestive system tumors, elevated levels can be used to assist in diagnosis [19,20]. Updated data on Prostate-specific antigen (PSA) screening are available, PSA screening increases prostate cancer (PC) diagnosis and reduces mortality [21][22][23][24].…”
