Frequency of Nonfermentative Gram-Negative Bacilli Isolated from Clinical Materials of Pacients at Universidade Federal do Ceará Hospital Complex - Brazil

Abstract: Among one thousand eight hundred and thirty-four Gram-negative bacilli, isolated at Universidade Federal do Ceará hospital complex - Brazil, from January 1995 to February 1996, 456 (24.8%) were Nonfermentative Gram-Negative Bacilli (NFGNB). This study reports their identification to the species level and their frequency as well. Thirteen genera and thirty species were identified and Pseudomonas aeruginosa was the most frequent species (69.95%), followed by Acinetobacter baumannii (5.48%) and by Acinetobacter l… Show more

“…Em estudo semelhante, Menezes et al (26) demonstraram que a frequência para esses microrganismos foi de 9,4%. A frequência de Pseudomonas aeruginosa apresentada em nosso estudo foi similar à relatada por Mimica et al (27) e Frota et al (17) e superior à encontrada por Menezes et al (26) . Menezes et al (25) , estudando culturas de ponta de cateter, também apontaram esse microrganismo como o mais comumente isolado entre os BGNNF.…”

“…To be effective as a sanitizer the suggested contact time would be 3h30 min to achieve n = 6 log 10 . Citric acid is also used with heated water (100 – 105°C) for 20 hours in dialyser reprocessing, in these conditions all infective agents including spores are destroyed and depyrogenation may occur, however these temperatures may result in structural damage, limiting the use [ 12 ]. Citric acid is used for cleaning and adjustment of reverse osmosis pH membrane.…”

“…The Pseudomonas species rather than P. aeruginosa do not frequently cause infections [4,8,11]. P. aeruginosa has been found occasionally on the skin, isolated from clinical material [15] removed from the throat (5%), and in feces (3%) of non-hospitalized people. The percentage of patients with gastrointestinal problems from this bacteria increases by 20% after 72 hours of hospitalization.…”
