Comparative anatomy of the leaves of Piper lepturum(Kunth) C.DC. var. lepturum and Piper lepturum var. angustifolium (C.DC.) Yunck.

Abstract: -(Comparative anatomy of the leaves of Piper lepturum (Kunth) C.DC. var. lepturum and Piper lepturum var. angustifolium (C.DC.) Yunck.). This study showed anatomical differences related to Piper lepturum var. lepturum and P. lepturum var. angustifolium species, sometimes considered varieties and in other cases synonyms. For histological analysis, fully expanded leaves were collected and for analysis by scanning electron microscope (SEM), fragments from the midrib were fixed on both leaf surfaces. The two speci… Show more

“…Analogous glandular trichomes were found in P. regnelli (Pessini et al, ), P. mikanianum (Kunth) Steud (Duarte & Siebenrock, ), Piper lepturum var. lepturum (Machado et al, ) and P. amalago L. (Santos et al, ). Multicellular and uniseriate nonglandular trichomes, either short or long, shaped by about five cells, with acute apical cells have been mentioned in relation to several species of Piper (Duarte & Siebenrock, ; Gogosz et al, ; Machado et al, ; Raman et al, 2014; Santos et al, ).…”

“…The stomata were tetracytic and actinocytic types ( Figure 1c) and they were only present on the abaxial face ( Figure 1c). Tetracytic stomata are frequent in Piper (Gogosz et al, 2012;Machado et al, 2015;Santos, Franco, Amano, Messias-Reason, & Budel, 2015). However, other types can be found such as staurocytic (Souza et al, 2009), cyclocytic (Albiero, Paoli, Souza, & Mourão, 2005), as well as anisocytic, anomocytic, polycytic, paracytic, and amphicyclic (Raman, Galal, & Khan, 2012).…”
