Susceptibility of Pecan Cultivars to Cladosporium cladosporioides Species Complex

Abstract: Recent studies have observed symptoms of leaf spot in pecan (Carya illinoinensis) associated with species of the Cladosporium cladosporioides complex (C. cladosporioides, C. pseudocladosporioides, and C. subuliforme). Therefore, the present study aimed to investigate the pathogenicity of these Cladosporium spp. isolated from two pecan cultivars. Twenty-six isolates were used to inoculate leaflets of the cultivars, 'Barton' and 'Shawnee' , with a spore suspension. The suspension was applied through drops on the… Show more

“…'Barton' growing in commercial orchards were collected during mid-summer for pathogenicity tests. The healthy detached leaflets were droplet-inoculated with 100 μL of a 2 × 05 spores mL -1 suspension, at six points on the abaxial portion of each leaflet (Walker et al 2018). Sterilized distilled water was used as a control.…”

“…The development of plant pathogen-resistant materials requires reliable disease assessment and selection techniques. Most studies evaluating plant germplasm are conducted in the field with a history of the disease (Walker et al 2018). These studies may yield inconsistent results, as several factors inherent to the pathosystem may vary between locations and between harvests (Ishikawa et al, 2018).…”
