The Pre-exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) for the prevention of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection consists in using antiretroviral medicine before sexual exposure to the virus to decrease probability of infection. The PrEP is capable of preventing the virus infection and promoting a healthier sexual life. Brazil has been a reference in HIV treatment not only because it was the first country in Latin America to offer free antiretroviral treatment to virus carriers but also because it participated in the Initiative in Pre-exposure Prophylaxis (iPrEP), a study that was carried out in several countries worldwide and proved effectiveness of the PrEP. Medication distributed by the Brazilian Public Health System (SUS) is quite unknown to the population. To mitigate current proliferation of sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) and increase in pregnancy cases among adolescents, sexual orientation has been intensified in schools and, thus, it has also become their responsibility, rather than parents’ responsibility alone. Therefore, this study aimed at carrying out dynamic and dialogic interventions about the PrEP in classes taught to High School seniors who attend technical courses in Commerce and in Development of Digital Games at the Instituto Federal do Triângulo Mineiro - Campus Uberlândia Centro, Uberlândia, Minas Gerais (MG), Brazil. A dialogical Chemistry class was taught to show students several images and chemical structures of active ingredients found in the medication (PrEP). Besides, students answered a questionnaire with open questions anonymously to evaluate the effect of the class on their learning about sexual education, HIV/AIDS and, mainly, the PrEP. Students showed much interest in the tasks and interacted positively. Results of the questionnaire enabled to observe students’ increase in knowledge about the PrEP. In sum, this study enabled the PrEP to be better disseminated, since doubts were mitigated.

Background Gestational syphilis requires early detection and proper treatment to prevent negative maternal-fetal outcomes. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of an educational intervention on treatment adherence and knowledge about syphilis in postpartum women with positive Treponema pallidum results. Methods A randomized, parallel, and open clinical trial was conducted with 64 postpartum women who tested positive for T. pallidum, assigned to two groups (1:1 ratio). The Intervention Group (IG) received an educational intervention on syphilis, including an explanatory leaflet and hands-on demonstrations, along with standard guidelines. The Control Group (CG) received standard guidelines alone. Pre-test and post-test assessments were conducted to measure knowledge and treatment adherence. Statistical analyses included descriptive and inferential methods, assessing group homogeneity using the Chi-square or Fishers exact test. The interventions effectiveness was determined using relative risk, and pre- and post-test scores were compared using the independent t test. Results The post-test revealed improvements in knowledge scores for general knowledge, treatment, and prevention domains ( p < .05). The IG demonstrated an increase in post-test knowledge scores ( p = .001), with association between post-test scores and treatment adherence ( p = .001). Conclusion The educational intervention on syphilis improved knowledge and treatment adherence in postpartum women with syphilis.

Objetivo: O presente estudo teve como objetivo analisar a prevalência de Infecções Sexualmente Transmissíveis (IST) em universitários de uma instituição pública de Parnaíba. Métodos: A pesquisa tratou-se de um estudo descritivo do tipo transversal e inferencial de abordagem quantitativa realizado no período de maio de 2020 a fevereiro de 2021, por meio da ferramenta online Google Forms. Contou com uma amostra de 286 voluntários na faixa etária de 18 a 38 anos. Para análise dos dados utilizou-se uma estatística descritiva e teste Qui-quadrado. Resultados: Os resultados demonstraram que a prevalência de IST nos últimos 12 meses foi de 33,2%, tendo 3,8% destes ocorridos durante o período da pesquisa, e apenas 14,0% procuraram atendimento de saúde. Somente 33,2% relataram que quase sempre usam preservativo. Sobre educação sexual, 65% referiram contato com a temática. Porém, não foi decisivo na prevenção às IST, que das mencionadas, as mais comuns foram candidíase, sífilis, HPV e gonorreia. Conclusão: Os percentuais encontrados neste estudo apontam uma moderada prevalência de IST na população jovem em estudo, bem como, apontam para uma proteção àqueles que fazem uso de preservativo durante o sexo vaginal e oral.
