The use of extracts from plants and/or allelopathic compounds from natural products can minimize the use of pesticides in agriculture. This is a chemical study of Machaerium eriocarpum branch extract and the evaluation of the allelopathic potential of Machaerium hirtum (Vell.) Stellfed and M. eriocarpum Benth (Fabaceae) leaves and branches extracts. The triterpene lupeol was isolated from the hydroethanolic extract of M. eriocarpum branches. The quantification of this compound in all extracts was performed by HPLC-APCI-MS/MS and the highest amount of lupeol was observed in the leaves extract of M. eriocarpum. Allelopathy tests were carried out against seeds of Sorghum bicolor L. (sorghum), evaluating the final percentage of germination, germination speed index (GSI), root growth and number of lateral roots. The leaves extracts of both species were effective in the inhibition of the root growth as well as of the lateral roots. The branches extract of M. hirtum showed inhibitory effect in the root growth and lateral roots only in 50 and 100 mg.L -1 doses. The lupeol showed mainly a strong inhibition of seed germination, root growth and lateral root appearance at 100 μM. This study showed the potentiality of Machaerium extracts and lupeol as bioherbicides.

The analysis by HPLC-PDA of the hydroalcoholic extract of the leaves of M. eriocarpum together with the injection of the fractions containing the already identified metabolites allowed the detection of at least 5 flavonoids, of which two are derived from apigenin and three from luteolin. After isolating larger amounts of isovitexin (I), assays were performed to evaluate the allelopathic activity together with the crude extract.The results show that the initial inhibition indexes were very similar to those observed in the treatments with F17 (Fraction enriched in isovitexin) and F18 (isovitexin), mainly in the concentrations of 500 and 1000 mg.L -1 . A floresta estacional semidecidual, fitofisionomia que revestia quase todo o interior do estado de São Paulo, está representada atualmente por apenas 5% da sua cobertura original. Este trabalho consiste no levantamento dos representantes do clado mimosoide numa das últimas áreas de vegetação contínua do estado, a Serra do Japi. Foram registradas 24 espécies distribuídas em oito gêneros, dos quais os mais diversos são Mimosa (7 spp.), Inga (6 spp.), Senegalia (5 spp.) e Anadenanthera (2 spp.). As espécies de hábito arbóreo predominam no local e a maioria dos táxons compartilha o Cerrado e a Mata Atlântica como área de ocorrência, com exceção de Inga subnuda e Senegalia grandistipula, ambas endêmicas da Mata Atlântica. Seis são endêmicas do Brasil (Abarema langsdorffii, I. subnuda., I. sessilis, Leucochloron incuriale, Mimosa furfuracea, S. grandistipula), doze são novos registros para a Serra do Japi e uma é inédita para o estado (Senegalia tucumanensis). Os principais caracteres diagnósticos para a distinção dos gêneros foram os tipos de folha e fruto, presença de nectários extraflorais e número e fusão de estames, e para as espécies, presença de glândulas em locais específicos, presença de acúleos, tricomas e estípulas, e número de folíolos. AbstractThe semideciduous seasonal forest, physiognomy that covered almost the entire interior of the São Paulo state, is currently represented by only 5% of its original area. This paper presents a survey of mimosoid clade in one of the last areas of continuous vegetation of the state, the Serra do Japi. Twenty four species belonging to eight genera were sampled, of which Mimosa (7 spp.), Inga (6 spp.), Senegalia (5 spp.) and Anadenanthera (2 spp.) were the most diverse genera. The arboreal taxa prevail on this area. Inventoried species are well distributed in the different vegetation types of Brazil. Twelve species are new records for the Serra do Japi and one species to the state. Six species are endemic to Brazil (Abarema langsdorffii, Inga subnuda, I. sessilis, Leucochloron incuriale, Mimosa furfuracea, Senegalia grandistipula) and two only occur in the Mata Atlântica (Inga subnuda e Senegalia grandistipula).The main diagnostic characters to distinguish the genera, were the types of leaf and fruit, presence of extrafloral nectaries and number and fusion of stamens, and for the species, presence of glands in specific locations, presence of thorns, trichomes and stipules, and number of leaflets.
