“…Despite the diverse nature of favelas and their organisations, their territorial dynamics are remarkably similar, particularly in terms of the spatial inequalities they face (Lacerda, 2015; Brulon and Peci, 2018; Fleury and Menezes, 2021). I have shown how the historical context of favelas and their role in the territorial division of labour explain the profiles of existing organisations.…”

“… 2. In MOS, Santos is widely unknown, with rare exceptions of exploratory investigations of the Brazilian reality in Portuguese. These include, for example, investigations aimed at identifying links between development and resource flows between territory insiders and outsiders (Costa and Goulart, 2011) and the power relations that harness the capacity of state organisations in marginal spaces (Brulon and Peci, 2018). …”

“…Organizing, as a product of complex social interactions that occur in several places at the same time (Czarniawska, 2004;, has already been used to study some organizational forms associated with the production of resistances, such as the struggles of favela residents regarding public policies (Brulon & Peci, 2018;Noronha, 2018) and the cultural productions of maracatu (Santos & Helal, 2018). In search to advance in this perspective, we analyzed the processes of organizing resistances in the ordinary management of handicraft, making a connection with the contributions by De Certeau (1998).…”

“…In this scenario, we distanced ourselves from the common sense of the term organization, which indicates a defined structure, and treated it as organizing processes of permanent constructions (Duarte & Alcadipani, 2016), placed in space and time (Czarniawska, 2004). This perspective allows the reading of the processes of organizing as unfinished products of complex social interactions, extolling the importance of studying other organizational forms, for example concerning the resistance of which residents of Brazilian favelas are part (Brulon & Peci, 2018;Noronha, 2018).…”

“…Among the various possibilities, it is worth highlighting research adopting space as an object of study and, in particular, its set of practices and political disputes (Brulon & Peci, 2018;Saraiva & Carrieri, 2012;Vaara, Sorsa & Pälli, 2010). Similarly, various works have been grounded on organizational approaches to understanding phenomena that have historically remained on the margins of administration, as is the case of totalitarian organizations (Meneguetti, 2018) and military corporations (Alcadipani & Medeiros, 2016).…”
