Yield, maturation cycle, and estimates of genetic parameters of Robusta coffee genotypes under irrigation in the Cerrado

Abstract: Eighty-five Coffea canephora genotypes were evaluated for three crop seasons under irrigation in the Cerrado of the Distrito Federal, Brazil, to characterize the population regarding phenotype, yield and maturation cycle. The experiment was conducted through the Basic Model of Repeatability without Design methodology. Regarding the cycles, genotypes were divided into four groups with the following periods, in days, from resumption of irrigation to the cherry stage: very early (243-255), early (256-267), medium… Show more

“…For their part, Santos et al (2015) state that variables with high accuracy values also indicate good genetic control in expression of a trait. Therefore, accuracy values greater than 0.70 are sufficiently high to make precise inferences regarding the genetic value of the progeny, whereas low accuracy values are usually related to low heritability estimates of a trait (Santin et al 2019). However, it is noteworthy that, in the present experiment, only TSS showed an accuracy value lower than 0.70.…”

“…The disparity in H. hampei penetration time in different coffee varieties may be associated with the intrinsic genetic characteristics of each coffee variety. Genetic variability affects plant characteristicssuch as productivity and fruit maturation cycle (Santin et al, 2019), drink quality (Barbosa et al 2019;Lemos et al, 2020), produced secondary metabolites (Becerra et al, 2019), and berry crown diameter (Machado et al, 2017). Thus, the extended penetration time by H. hampei in Arara, Guará and Catuaí Vermelho IAC 144 varieties may be linked to genes that regulate pericarp characteristics that might hinder H. hampei, increasing the time females would take to drill into the berry.…”
