Efeitos de um workshop de simulação sobre a competência em punção arterial de estudantes de enfermagem

Abstract: Objective: To evaluate whether a short simulation-based workshop in radial artery puncture would improve nursing students' competence to a level in which they could practise the procedure on a live patient without compromising his safety. Methods: Quasi-experimental one-group pretest-posttest study with 111 third-year nursing students. A 1.5-hour simulation-based workshop was implemented. This included a video-lecture, live demonstrations, selfdirected simulated practice in dyads and individual intermittent fe… Show more

“…32 In different areas, a number of research studies show that using simulation as a teaching strategy is efficient to improve the acquisition of knowledge, the performance and safety of the students and also of health professionals in different care procedures. 28,[33][34][35] However, the choice of complex scenarios may not meet the needs of what it is intended to develop. Teacher preparation and planning bring together two essential activities for Active methodologies in peripheral catheterization Canever BP, Sanes MS, Oliveira SN, Magalhães ALP, Prado ML, Costa DG the pedagogical intentionality to be expressed in the provision of educational activities that really meet the learning objectives.…”

“…The activity chosen for the test was radial artery puncture (to provide a sample of blood for the arterial blood gas test for example), identified as needing improvement (as observed elsewhere: Tavakol et al, 2012;Hernández-Padilla et al, 2016a, 2016b and presenting the advantage of being simple and short, limiting the cost of the experiments.…”
