“…A comprehensive bibliometric review of 25 development journals (2000)(2001)(2002)(2003)(2004)(2005)(2006)(2007)(2008)(2009)(2010)(2011)(2012)(2013)(2014)(2015)(2016)(2017)(2018)(2019) revealed that, indeed, even when controlling for an overwhelming majority of articles on Africa written by non-African authors (87%), the share of experimental research on an African country by an African author is 2.5 times lower than the share of the equivalent body of observational research (Panin 2020). Similar scientometric studies of other world regions also highlighted the relative diversity of observational studies (Cansun and Arik 2018;Codato, Madeira, and Bittencourt 2020).
