Ingestão de energia e nutrientes segundo consumo de alimentos fora do lar na Região Nordeste: uma análise do Inquérito Nacional de Alimentação 2008-2009

Abstract: Away-from-home food consumption in the Northeast Region contributed to higher energy and poorer nutrient intake. Therefore, the development of public policies and strategies that favor health food choices when individuals eat away from home is necessary.

“…The reason for this phenomenon may be that people tend to choose food with better tastes and higher nutritional values when they eat away from home [30]. Additionally, eating out-of-home has more frequently been associated with higher socioeconomic status (measured by higher education level and household income) [29, 32, 33], as people in higher socioeconomic status are more likely to afford frequent away-from-home food consumption. We also discovered that the inadequate energy intake was significantly higher among unemployed TB patients, which is consistent with studies conducted in other countries [34, 35].…”

“…Other studies on food consumption in Brazil (Brasil, 2009; De Souza et al ., 2013; Cavalcante et al ., 2017) have shown that the different income levels of the population in the regions have a great impact on the consumption of sugar and industrialised products containing sugar in its composition. In the Northeast region, in recent years, there has been an increase in the population income with a consequent increase in the consumption of food outside the home, leading to a reduction in the purchase of sugar, and a higher intake of industrialised products containing sugar (Cavalcante et al ., 2017). This pattern is expected to continue not only in the Northeast, but also in the North region of the country once both are still considered the impoverished regions in Brazil despite the increase in population income.…”

“…Há também um aumento do consumo de alimentos fora do lar atualmente, que contribui para o consumo inadequado ou insuficiente de energia e nutrientes, com a ingesta de proteínas, fibra alimentar e ferro consideravelmente inferior se comparados aos que se alimentavam em seu lar, onde a área urbana é a que mais se destaca (Cavalcante, et. al., 2017).…”
