Social inequalities in the prevalence of common mental disorders in adults: a population-based study in Southern Brazil

Abstract: ABSTRACT:Objective: This study aimed to investigate the prevalence and factors associated with Common Mental Disorders (CMD) in adults in a capital city in Southern Brazil. “…The evaluation of CMD employed the already validated Self-Reporting Questionnaire (SRQ-20). This instrument is based on symptoms experienced in the last 30 days with dichotomous responses (yes/no), with total score ranging from 0 to 20, allowing the screening of minor psychiatric symptoms, such as depression, anxiety, somatoform disorders and neurasthenia, without the intention of providing the diagnosis regarding the existing type of disorder 14 .
