Exploring Risk Perception and Degree of Internationalization of Brazilian Small-and-Medium Enterprises

Abstract: This research investigates managerial risk perception regarding internationalization of small and medium-sized enterprises in the Brazilian context. We examine how managers' perception of risk influences firms' degrees of internationalization. Likewise, we assessed how risk perception is influenced by managers' cognitive traits, such as tolerance for ambiguity and cognitive style. We provided empirical evidence for the relationships we proposed through a partial least squares structural equation model with dat… Show more

“…Combining these help balance exploitation and exploration activities and flexibly coordinate resources (Worley, Williams and Lawler, 2013;Freiling and Shelhowe, 2014), advantages and sustainability resulting despite dynamic BC and hindrances (Wittmann, July 2018 www.ijbed.org A Journal of the Academy of Business and Retail Management (ABRM) 80 2007; Tan and Meyer, 2010;UNCTAD, 2014). “…This research concentrates mainly on INT approaches of I-Models and Networks, outward-bound INT activities, IVN and products, standardization and relationships connected to EE markets. OLT perspective (Argote and Miron-Spektor, 2011) applied to address INT phenomena and issues highlighted in Figure 1, is a commonality in I-models, medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), can be influenced by managers' behavior and uncertainty tolerance (Dimitratos and Jones, 2005;Freiling and Schelhowe, 2014;Bonfim et al, 2018). By improving EO firms can better succeed and survive, engaging resources highly-qualified, competent, heeding pressures for change, exceptionally aware of high-return opportunities, to allow early INT (Coviello and Munro, 1995;Spencer and Gomez, 2006;Weerawardena et al, 2007, Zuchella et al, 2007Worley, Williams and Lawler, 2013).…”

“…Bonfim et al [61] found that, in the integration phase of internationalization in developing countries, managements' perceptions of economic human and environmental risks in Brazilian ore SMEs were an important factor in their trade integration into foreign markets. The study therefore emphasized the importance of universal, strong sustainability-sensitive factors in this final phase of the internationalization process.…”
