Spatial Convergence of the Gross Value of Production of Firewood in the Mesoregions of the Brazilian Northeast

Abstract: -This paper analyzed the process of convergence in the gross value of wood production in mesoregions of Northeast Brazil, in the period of 1994 and 2013. The object of study was the Gross Value of Production (GVP) of firewood per km 2 of the mesoregions of the Northeast of Brazil. In the methodology the Absolute Convergence Model was applied and estimated through the classical model and spatial models. In the spatial approach we used the Spatial Autoregressive Model (SAR) and the Spatial Error Model (SEM). Fro… Show more

“…The spatial binary weight matrix (SBWM) was formed using GeoDa software (Version 1.16.0.12). We constructed our SBWM with the Rook criterion using the conventional method, holding that the weight is defined as 1 when two areas share a boundary but is valued at 0 otherwise ( 16 , 17 ). However, Hainan Province has no common boundary with any other provinces because of its special geographical location.…”

“…A atenção mundial está voltada à preservação das florestas tropicais húmidas, devido às grandes reservas de madeira e de carbono. As regiões semiáridas e áridas se destacam pela densidade populacional e consequente intensidade do uso dos recursos florestais (MELO, 2004;MARTINS;SILVA, 2018).…”
