Determination of Ochratoxin A Levels in Mixed Feed and Feed Stuffs Used in Some Laying Hens and Ruminant Enterprises of Sivas City

Abstract: Mycotoxins, which are produced by some fungi under improper storage conditions before or after harvesting in plant products, cause acute or chronic toxicities. Ochratoxin A (OA) which is also one of the harmful mycotoxins pose a threat to animal and human health. This study was carried out in order to determine OA levels in mixed feed and feedstuffs materials used in livestock enterprises throughout Sivas province. The 59 mixed feeds and 30 feedstuffs materials collected from different enterprises was analysed… Show more

“…OTA is also found in feed and feedstuffs. A study showed that OTA in mixed feed and feedstuffs used in some laying hens was found to be positive in 64 of the 89 samples analyzed ( Gumus et al., 2018 ). In another study from South America published by Magnoli et al.…”

“…Chemical name for Ochratoxin A contains 7-carboxy-5-chloro-8-hydroxy-4,4-dihydro-3(R)-methyl isocoumarin (Ochratoxin α; OTα) that is linked through the 7-carboxy group to l-β-phenylalanine by a peptide bond. Briefly, the chemical abstract number, molecular formula and molecular mass of each Ochratoxins type is described in table 1 [10]. On the other hand in acidic and alkaline solution Ochratoxin A shows different properties.…”

“…Ochratoxin A is one of the secondary metabolite of mycotoxin group and can be existed in several agricultural products and in animal feeds [10]. Number of studies finding report indicate that Ochratoxin A was existed in several processed and unprocessed food stuffs, species and different alcoholic beverage.…”

“…Three yeast cell wall-based mycotoxin adsorbent products were tested, which were classified as yeast cell wall (YCW), yeast cell wall extract (YCWE), and a postbiotic yeast cell wall-based blend (PYCW). Four mycotoxins—deoxynivalenol (DON), beauvericin (BEA), ochratoxin A (OTA), and citrinin (CIT)—were selected for their significance based on public concern, their occurrence in ruminant feed or feedstuff [ 1 , 34 , 35 , 36 , 37 , 38 ], their known toxic effects [ 23 , 39 , 40 , 41 ], and their agri-economic significance [ 2 , 42 ]. The present study not only sheds light on the potential multi-mycotoxin interaction capacity of the tested binder products, especially for novel adsorbent compositions such as PYCW, but also provides insight into BEA and CIT mitigation, which has not been widely studied.…”
