O Chile já deixara o bloco quando este ainda se chamava Pacto Andino, em 1977, devido às políticas de liberalização comercial adotadas durante o regime do general Augusto Pinochet (Bressan & Luciano, 2018), vindo a firmar em 2011 sua adesão à Aliança do Pacífico.
