Os ativos intangíveis são relevantes para a geração de valor organizacional nos diversos setores da economia. O objetivo desta pesquisa é analisar a produção científica sobre ativos intangíveis, destacando as suas contribuições para a criação de valor organizacional nas Instituições de Ensino Superior. Esta é uma pesquisa quantitativa e qualitativa, quanto à abordagem, e exploratória, quanto ao objetivo. Foram realizadas três buscas na base bibliográfica SCOPUS. Os resultados evidenciaram que todos os grupos de ativos intangíveis são fundamentais na criação de valor organizacional, e que as pesquisas na área vêm ganhando repercussão no ambiente científico ao longo do tempo. Percebeu-se que o setor educacional é pouco abordado nessas pesquisas, ao passo que o setor empresarial recebe maior atenção dos pesquisadores. Além disso, observou-se a existência de um núcleo de países/territórios mais produtivo, em relação à origem dessas publicações. Pesquisas demonstrando a atuação das Instituições de Ensino Superior no desenvolvimento científico e tecnológico podem contribuir para a criação de valor organizacional. A difusão do conhecimento, a criação de produtos ou oferta de serviços resultantes das suas atividades, além de fortalecer o valor da marca diante dos públicos estratégicos, apoia a tomada de decisão em relação aos investimentos em ciência, tecnologia e inovação.

Health System Outcomes in BRICS Countries and Their Association With the Economic Context

The aim of the article is to compare health system outcomes in the BRICS countries, assess the trends of their changes in 2000−2017, and verify whether they are in any way correlated with the economic context. The indicators considered were: nominal and per capita current health expenditure, government health expenditure, gross domestic product (GDP) per capita, GDP growth, unemployment, inflation, and composition of GDP. The study covered five countries of the BRICS group over a period of 18 years. We decided to characterize countries covered with a dataset of selected indicators describing population health status, namely: life expectancy at birth, level of immunization, infant mortality rate, maternal mortality ratio, and tuberculosis case detection rate. We constructed a unified synthetic measure depicting the performance of individual health systems in terms of their outcomes with a single numerical value. Descriptive statistical analysis of quantitative traits consisted of the arithmetic mean (xsr), standard deviation (SD), and, where needed, the median. The normality of the distribution of variables was tested with the Shapiro-Wilk test. Spearman's rho and Kendall tau rank coefficients were used for correlation analysis between measures. The correlation analyses have been supplemented with factor analysis. We found that the best results in terms of health care system performance were recorded in Russia, China, and Brazil. India and South Africa are noticeably worse. However, the entire group performs visibly worse than the developed countries. The health system outcomes appeared to correlate on a statistically significant scale with health expenditures per capita, governments involvement in health expenditures, GDP per capita, and industry share in GDP; however, these correlations are relatively weak, with the highest strength in the case of government's involvement in health expenditures and GDP per capita. Due to weak correlation with economic background, other factors may play a role in determining health system outcomes in BRICS countries. More research should be recommended to find them and determine to what extent and how exactly they affect health system outcomes.

This paper investigates the role of civil society (CS) in relation to issues of global concern, such as the current COVID-19 pandemic. In particular, it focuses on the role of CS in the BRICS countries (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa). Western CS has, over time, shown certain limitations that have exposed it to a number of criticisms, while in BRICS, CS could begin to play a decisive role as a “historical bloc,” using Gramsci’s expression. In fact, BRICS has repeatedly reiterated that it wants to reshape global governance (GG), and indeed its current growth has shown that it could effectively do so. Therefore, it is worth analyzing what role CS plays in this process. This analysis leads to an understanding of the many advances, and also the diverse limitations, that characterize the effectiveness of the work of CS in the BRICS countries. Thus, CS’s ability to be decisive in policymaking remains unclear. The argument in this paper proceeds as follows: some classical theories on CS are analyzed, highlighting the ethical tasks in which CS should be engaged; then, criticisms directed toward western CS are debated. Finally, the limitations and potential that CS has in the BRICS countries is considered, above all in light of the recent response to COVID-19. The conclusions highlight the fact that, if the BRICS countries want to play a leading role in GG and, broadly speaking, in future multilateralism, CS must play a decisive role within them. Specifically, a solid cooperation, or even a stable alliance, is needed between the civil societies of BRICS countries in order to address pressing issues and demands coming from the Global South.
