Ticks have a great diversity of hosts, many of which are still being discovered. These parasites may be responsible for the transmission of several pathogens to animals and humans. For this reason, knowledge on tick species and their hosts is essential for planning actions in public health and fauna conservation. From February 2018 to July 2019, ticks found in animals treated at the Wild Animal Clinic of the Federal University of Lavras (UFLA) were surveyed. Animals came from nine municipalities at the southern region of Minas Gerais State, all close to the municipality of Lavras. During veterinary procedures the animals were inspected, and tick specimens were removed from the hosts’ skins with the help of tweezers, and posteriorly identified. One hundred and three specimens of ticks were removed from the hosts and allocated in five species of Amblyomma Koch, 1844 (Ixodidae) [A. nodosum (Neumann, 1899), A. sculptum Berlese, 1888, A. aureolatum (Pallas, 1772), A. calcaratum Neumann, 1899, and A. ovale (Koch, 1844)] and one of Rhipicephalus Latreille, 1806 [R. (Boophilus) microplus (Canestrini, 1888)]. Ticks were collected from: Cariama cristata (Linnaeus, 1766) (Cariamidae); Cerdocyon thous Linnaeus, 1766 and Chrysocyon brachyurus Illiger,1815 (Canidae); Leopardus pardalis Linnaeus, 1758 (Felidae); Mazama gouazoubira Fischer, 1814 (Cervidae); Myrmecophaga tridactyla Linnaeus, 1758 (Myrmecophagidae); Sphiggurus villosus (F. Cuvier, 1823) (Erethizontidae). In this study no new parasite-host relationships were found, however, wild animals can be vectors of important diseases, and monitoring the occurrence of ectoparasites in wildlife is a significant step in public health policies.

Amblyomma ticks are vectors of both Rickettsia rickettsii and R. parkeri in the Americas, where capybaras (Hydrochoerus hydrochaeris) are the main hosts in urban areas, thus contributing to the transmission of spotted fever. Herein, we studied: (i) the seasonal dynamics and abundance of ticks in areas where capybaras live, (ii) the effect of environmental variables on tick abundance, and (iii) the presence of Rickettsia-infected ticks. Between September 2021 and September 2022, we sampled ticks using cloth-dragging at 194 sites on the shore of Lake Paranoá in Brasília, Brazil. We measured environmental data (season, vegetation type, canopy density, temperature, humidity, and presence or vestige of capybara) at each site. Nymphs and adults were morphologically identified to the species level, and a selected tick sample including larvae was subjected to genotypic identification. We investigated Rickettsia-infected ticks by PCR (gltA, htrA, ompB, and ompA genes) and associations between tick abundance and environmental variables using Generalized Linear Models. A total of 30,334 ticks (96% larvae) were captured. Ticks were identified as Amblyomma, with A. sculptum comprising 97% of the adult/nymphs. Genotype identification of a larval sample confirmed that 95% belonged to A. dubitatum. Seasonal variables showed significant effects on tick abundance. Most larvae and nymphs were captured during the early dry season, while the adults were more abundant during the wet season. Vegetation variables and the presence of capybaras showed no association with tick abundance. Rickettsia parkeri group and R. bellii were identified in A. dubitatum, while A. sculptum presented R. bellii. We conclude that: (i) Amblyomma ticks are widely distributed in Lake Paranoá throughout the year, especially larvae at the dry season, (ii) the abundance of Amblyomma ticks is explained more by climatic factors than by vegetation or presence of capybaras, and (iii) A. dubitatum ticks are potential vectors of R. parkeri in Brasília.

O declínio da biodiversidade devido as ações humanas têm sido documentadas há muito tempo. Contudo, nas últimas décadas esse declínio tem atingidos valores alarmantes. Como resultado da perda da diversidade biológica observa-se inúmeras consequências, o presente trabalho, enfocara nas consequências sanitárias, e, dessa forma discutirá quais são as principais reverberações que a atual crise na biodiversidade acarreta a saúde humana. Para tanto, foram realizadas buscas bibliográficas em diferentes plataformas acadêmicas. Após análise dos artigos selecionados, inferiu-se que as principais consequências da perda da biodiversidade para saúde humana foram: Aumento no número de doenças zoonóticas; crescimento no número de pessoas que adoeceram direta, ou indiretamente – devido a mudanças climáticas e a emergência e/ou re-emergência de enfermidades provenientes da poluição. Assim, sugere-se que estudos que incorporem as duas dimensões, saúde e biodiversidade, possam ocorrer com maior ênfase, tendo em vista que compreender essa correlação não só nos auxiliará na construção de mecanismo de proteção como, também, poderá ajudar na elaboração de medidas para evitar doenças com potencial pandêmico. Além disso, faz-se necessário a inserção de ações conservacionistas dentro das políticas de saúde global, uma vez que diferentes quadros patológicos são oriundos das modificações que a humanidade vem realizando à biodiversidade. Palavras-chave: Conservação. Diversidade Biológica. Políticas Sanitárias. Abstract Biodiversity decline due to human actions has been documented for a long time. However, in recent decades this decline has reached alarming levels. As a result of the loss of biological diversity, there are numerous consequences, this work will focus on the health consequences, and thus will discuss what are the main reverberations that the current crisis in biodiversity causes to human health. Therefore, bibliographic searches were carried out in different academic platforms. After analyzing the selected articles, it was inferred that the main consequences of the loss of biodiversity for human health were: Increase in the number of zoonotic diseases; growth in the number of people who became ill directly or indirectly due to climate change and the emergence and/or re-emergence of illnesses arising from the emergency. Thus, it is essential that incorporating as two dimensions, health and biodiversity, occur with greater emphasis, considering that understanding this comparison of studies not only in aids in the construction of a protection mechanism, but also can help in the definition of measures to prevent diseases with pandemic potential. In addition, it is necessary to insert conservation actions within global health policies, since different pathological conditions arise from the modification that humanity has been making to biodiversity.
