Experiences of mothers and fathers of children and adolescents with cancer: a phenomenological-existential Heideggerian approach

Abstract: This study was based in Heideggerian existential phenomenology, and aims to understand the experiences of mothers/fathers of children and adolescents with cancer. A total of 13 parents of eight patients attended by a charitable association participated, between December 2011 and March 2012. “…On most sites, the attempt to allay concern about the potential risk of COVID-19 emerged on the grounds that these families were already sufficiently informed and used to protecting their children from infection. Despite the significant knowledge that these families acquire to protect their children, attitudes of minimization reinforce the feeling of loneliness and abandonment in the face of the pilgrimage in search of healing or preserving the child's life, in addition to not meeting the value of the human being and possibilities of family functioning (45) .
