Objective: to assess the relationship between inadequate functional health literacy and inadequate blood pressure control in older people with hypertension in Primary Health Care. Method: a cross-sectional study with sample calculated at 392. SAHLPA-18 tool was used for functional health literacy; blood pressure was measured; sociodemographic and clinical data were collected. Hierarchical logistic regression was used. Results: (high) inadequate blood pressure and (low) functional inadequate health literacy were present in 41.6% and 54.6% of the people, respectively. Factors associated with inadequate blood pressure were: inadequate functional health literacy, black-brown skin color, overweight-obesity, hypertension diagnosis time, non-adherence to exercise/diet, drug treatment. Schooling had no association with inadequate blood pressure Conclusion: hypertensive elderly people with inadequate health literacy were more likely to have inadequate blood pressure. Thus, health professionals need to value functional health literacy as a possible component to control blood pressure.

“…The perception of parental self-efficacy was negative regarding subjective aspects such as "seeing their children sad", and clinical aspects such as "witnessing seizures and spasticity", complications resulting from CP (Oliveira, Valarelli, Caldas, Nascimento, & Dantas, 2015;Santos, 2014).The need for parental emotional control is evident in both cases. However, the clinical demands imply that caregivers understand minimally about how to deal with these situations, which is called "Health Literacy" in the literature (Quemelo, Milani, Bento, Vieira, & Zaia, 2017). In this particular aspect, we point the caregivers' low schooling level as being possibly associated with limited understanding about their children's developmental alteration and its probable causes and consequences.…”

Low parental coparenting and self-efficacy negatively impact children’s development. Our study sought to describe and analyze the parental coparenting and self-efficacy of 84 caregivers of children with cerebral palsy (CP) in Brazil. We used a Sociodemographic Inventory (SDI), Gross Motor Function Classification System (GMFCS), Self-efficacy Scale and Coparenting Questionnaire (CQ). Data were subjected to descriptive statistics and Correspondence Analysis. ISD results showed the mothers as the main caregivers of children with CP, being mostly girls at level V in the GMFCS scale. Low levels of coparenting and self-efficacy were observed in young caregivers, caring for girls older than six years old. Self-efficacy was higher regarding basic and daily care such as feeding and performing personal hygiene, and lower regarding seizures and subjective aspects. No significant correlations were found between coparenting and self-efficacy. We concluded that interventions should be planned to increase parental coparenting and parental self-efficacy.

Este estudo tem como objetivo relatar uma experiência sobre a utilização de mídias (rádio e jornal) para difusão e acesso a informações seguras sobre cuidado em saúde, enquanto estratégia extracurricular na formação de enfermeiros. Teve como arcabouço conceitual metodológico a Literacia em Saúde, processo constituído por: compreensão e avaliação crítica das informações a serem difundidas e empreendimento de informações seguras sobre saúde capazes de apoiar a tomada de decisão. Iniciou-se em 2013 utilizando-se de veículos comunicacionais locais e universitários. Publicações dos textos informativos e dos assuntos reproduzidos na rádio foram definidas pelos acadêmicos. De forma geral, a difusão de informações seguras em saúde tem sido considerada prática potencial à transformação das condições de vida das populações. A utilização de mídias locais contextualiza a linguagem ao público alvo, permitindo maior amplitude de acesso das populações às informações. Sendo esta uma atividade extracurricular, possibilitou-se aos graduandos vivenciarem espaços de tecnologias inovadoras para a promoção da saúde.
