Preservative Treatment of Fence Posts Evaluation Through Photocolorimetry Segmentation Performance

Abstract: -The research object was evaluating the quality of preserving treatment of Eucalyptus sp. fence posts by the sap substitution method and comparing the penetration through the traditional and photocolorimetry segmentation methods. The fence posts, 2,0 meters long and with a diameter between 8 and 12 cm, were exposed to 2, 3 and 4% concentrations of CCB based-product active ingredients for 10 days. The penetrations were analyzed using two methodologies, one by the Image Pro Plus 4.5 software, using photocolorime… Show more

“…Some fungi and termites have a wide range of enzymes capable to metabolize natural polymers and, consequently, can cause significant changes in wood properties [10][11][12] . Therefore, xylophagous organisms are able to contribute to drastic reduction of the values of strength of the wood, being factor of economic importance 2,9 . To increase wood durability, several processes and chemicals have been developed 13,14 . Currently, water-soluble chemicals, are the most commonly used to such purpose.…”

“…To extend the service life of wood, many processes that use chemicals have been developed. Water-soluble preservative products are the most used and make wood more resistant to xylophagous organisms (Boschetti et al 2016). In Brazil, the most commonly used wood preservatives in chemical treatments are chromated copper borate (CCB) and chromated copper arsenate (CCA), the latter of which is used in 80% of treated wood production (de Souza 2013; Icimoto et al 2013;Ferro et al 2014).…”

“…Para potencializar as propriedades físicas e mecânicas da madeira e garantir sua durabilidade, é realizado o tratamento preservativo suprindo a necessidade de espécies de longa durabilidade, principalmente em instalações rurais (FARIA et al, 2015;BOSCHETTI et al, 2016). O processo de tratamento químico é desconhecido por muitos brasileiros, sendo necessário que tenha seus conhecimentos mais difundidos para que o uso da madeira como sistema estrutural seja ampliado no país.…”
